Doors to deck

I'm not sure which forum is best for this question, but here goes:

We have an urban rowhouse and are working with an architect to expand and convert a third floor/attic at the front of the house into a master bedroom suite that will open to a rooftop deck over the second floor on the back of the house. The deck will be relatively private and we want to maximize the view but we're having trouble figuring out what to use for doors. One problem is that the space is rather tight--the room that will open to the deck is only about 12 feet wide, with stairs coming up at one end. The other issue is that we want to have secure ventilation, i.e., windows or doors that can be left open (with screens) at night or when we're not home, to allow air circulation but without allowing anybody to get in. (The rooftop is relatively secure already but you never know, and we want true security.)

Any ideas? What kind of doors have other people used? Pictures would be much appreciated!
