Builder Issue - floors done poorly

Hello, we bought a spec home from a builder and negotiated in extending the hardwood floors where they had laid carpet. When checking on the progress we noticed that they left they old border and just laid new flooring, not working in the old at all. Have you ever seen this? I am furious but feel like I have no leverage to get it corrected unless I walk away from the home... Thoughts? The amendment said 'continue hardwood floors which is technically ambiguous'. Should I be mad at my realtor?

Spec home says it all. Be mad at yourself for giving him the loophole to crawl through. A well written contract vetted by a lawyer should have been SOP.

I'm sure you have a way to pressure them with plenty of noise. The squeaky wheel gets the grease! To me, it looks like they have the the carpet already in OR the hardwood was in waiting for the carpet. Personally I think you can "negotiate" price for "improper install". Either they take of the cost of material OR they take off the cost of labour for this rather poorly thoughout, but still technically sound, floor.

Personally I would ask for a discount and leave the floor as it is. It will probably go over "better" than asking for a redo...which is still an option.

Pressure them for the discount, and have it fixed on your own. And Cancork is right--the squeaky wheel does get the grease so very politely contact as many people as possible about he problem asking for the discount. Just a quick story: a few months ago I went to a large strip mall to buy a purse, and coming out I got in the wrong turn lane that was set back from the others. I was at the white stop line waiting for the light when a large SUV turned directly into the lane I was in! I came within 3 feet of being hit head-on, and later realized there had to be a problem with the turn lane as the person was making a blind left turn going around a couple of lanes of cars sticking further out, and couldn't see my little car so they had no idea I was there. I wrote all but one city council members along with the major, and the head of the traffic department for the city about the situation pointing out that my husband has noticed this problem, and that a good attorney could easily prove the city was at fault in an accident. Not only did I get several responses, but the city went to the strip mall, decided the lane markers needed to be repainted and wrote me that they were fixing that. At least something came of it, and I'll never get it that one lane again!

Thanks for the insight, I am kicking myself a little, but can't find a single other example of this. I'll learn from this but I'm talking to the builder about it today. I'd definitely like to find a way to have it fixed prior to move in.
