The reason for some reworking of historic lighting pieces is the tendency for old fixtures to have frayed wire, no ground wire, bad connections, etc. If you check online, and also, eBay, you might find just what you are looking for. Also, check reclamation yards, where others who want things in original condition go to find things.

I totally understand that. In fact, I don't mind a bit if the wiring is updated--I prefer it actually! It's more the parts and finish I'd prefer original. Thanks for the suggestion on reclamation yards--I've had some success with that route, so I'll keep preservering!
