You could pull the gold out of the rug to use for a wall color, but with your gorgeous woodwork and floor, I'd go with a light olive green like in the matt of your picture if it was my house.

Paint is the last step in the decorating process because the paint color can be custom blended to work with the fabrics you choose. The reverse doesn't happen, so wait until you have the new pieces to make your choice.

Thanks for the great suggestions! I'll pick up green chips and compare them to the rug. I just want to be sure it's different enough from the green in the dining room, which is an olive green.

If you dining room is close, I think I would use the same color but perhaps one shade lighter, so they work together vs two greens competing.

agree with decoenthusiaste....paint is last. start with a picture, a rug, fabric, etc. pick a color within that item and build off of it.
