the transformation is stunning, from cluttered to fashionably tidy. I probably would have painted a saturated mid tone color on the exposed walls to compliment the new cabinets. I'm wondering how much use you get out of the cabinet above the W/D unit. It looks hard to reach. I might have considered a drying cabinet instead, maybe. Anyway, you did a very nice job. enjoy your new laundry

Thanks Shannon, I guess I did good for a person the is not in the designing business. I just wanted to save money by designing myself. As for the top cabinet, I have a long grab stick which works pretty good.

I understand all about saving money and designing/building yourself! I can't afford any of the professional remodels seen on Houzz. I look for ideas I can replicate and do myself. I think you did a great job.

Me too, I can't afford interior or any designer. One came to my house for a quote, I almost die when I heard the price. I do the best I can.

Completely different style than your kitchen in another post. Why? This is an enviable laundry room until I realized there is no folding/sorting space. Again, why?

Hi adivira, again Im not an interior designer, I did the colors and things the it appeal to ME. At the end of the day Im the one the have to like it because I have to see it everyday. To me this is not a math project the things need to be put together in a certain way. There is nothing wrong with doing things outside the box, be creative do things differently. Do it your way. obviously you don't see my entire house just from the pictures you see here but I do get a lot of compliments from people the come to my house. THEY LOVE IT. I had a professional person come in and ask me if he can take pictures to show it to his wife because he wanted to do the same. I say be creative, do your own design not what it is expected. JUST HAVE FUN WITH IT. To answer your question the space work very well for me and my family. My main concern was my kids throwing their coats on top of everything and shoes all over the place. now as soon as they come in they hang their jackets inside the closets you see in the picture and on the bottom there is a shoe rack so everything is organized. To me the room was more for the jackets and shoes organization. This room is on the rear side of the house, my kids and family member usually come in thru this room to go inside the house. Visitors usually come in thru the front. As for the washing and drying, we all do our own laundry, one at all time. The open space in the middle (which is longer than what appears to be) thats our counter which works well for us whenever we used these machines. There is even a pull out board which you don't see in the picture.You also don't see the we have another washer and dryer on the upper floor near the bedrooms, usually the washer and dryer near the bedrooms is the ones my kids used because is right on the same floor of their bedrooms. So you see at the end of the day you need to design your house, your way and whats gonna work for your family. not what it should be or whats expected. Look at the words MY HOME

I think you did a great job. Like you, I can't afford a professional to help me, and do the best I can too. The first photo shows two windows in your laundry room and it looks like it was taken on a sunny day so the dark cabinets shouldn't be a problem at all. I love my house except for the laundry room. It doesn't have a window so is always dark.

Never knew this site could be so brutal. Some awfully judgmental people. With that said, YOU DID AN AMAZING JOB! It is your home and you will love that room every time you go into it. I will also tell you from a Realtors perspective, it will be a selling feature. Darker colors or not, pretty sure there are not many other laundry rooms that look like that and it will stand out as a feature to buyers.

Big impact looks so much better great job! I am always amazed at the judgmental and rude comments some people make so generally I get interested in why they feel they have the right to be so critical and I say who is this person let me see what they have done and always I find they have no work of their own to show no projects no before or afters usually just a bunch of idea books filled with other peoples creative and hard work !

Great job! It looks like a much neater and better organized space, which should make doing the laundry less of a challenge! The only other suggestion I would make is a fold out/drop down folding table.....

What a beautiful make over!
I see that the washer / dryer are covering up a portion of the window.
If you stacked the washer & dryer ( on top of one another) this would open that end of the room and you could see the whole window.

I fold clothes on my bed. Not everyone likes to fold in the laundry room...I find it too hot and humid in there some of the time. My bed is high and is perfect for folding.

I see. My mother does the same.

Great job. Like you, I am an avid DIYer who marches to my own drum so I can respect that. Especially when the results are so wonderful. Again, there are bullies and haters everywhere. Even on Houzz.

I love the dark wood & find the transformation quite impressive. That being said, when you post your photos on this site you will receive compliments & criticism. Some constructive, some not. I find it funny that anyone who disagrees, or points out a flaw is considered judgmental or rude. You can learn more from constructive criticism than from adulation.

Good for you in expressing your individuality and tackling this difficult job. I am always amazed how people think that it is OK to be so negative of someone just because they have the anonymity of the web. Hopefully they do not practice this in their daily life. If they do, I am sure they are not well liked. If we all chose the same things, what a boring life it would be.

i think it is beautiful. i would like to add that when i post something on here, i want both negative and positive remarks. i don't post something just to get the compliments. i post something because i want to hear others ideas. it's a waste of time, for me, to just get kudos. i have found the people on here have really good ideas. i wouldn't take it personally. :)

I don't think all criticisms are rude or judgmental, but there are rude and judgmental criticisms. When I discuss the internet with my kids my rule of thumb is "If you would not say it to the person's face, you should probably should not hit send." Doesn't mean that Houzzers should not have ideas and suggestions for improvement. That's kind of the point. But as grandma used to say, "There is a way to say everything, but not everything should be said."

Belkis, this is why I haven't posted pics of my house. I love my house and it might just break my heart for someone to be mean about it.

chrissiekirk thank you, Im happy I can shared it with others. The room really works well for us now. Before it was more like a place where my kids would just throw everything in. Now my kids have a place to put their belongings and Im able to stored everything. It is not a big room when it comes to width so to be able to used it for so many things, It is really a nice room to have. I hated this room before. Now I really enjoyed it.

Since this is the rear entrance that your family uses, I can see how it would make you smile every day. I too have found that having shoe, coat and key organizers right at the entry door makes for a lot less chaos.
