If you have electricity near the cabinet, and the budget for it, the Blum Servo-Drive will open the door with a tap of your knee. I'm thinking about getting that option. Advantage: no visible hardware. I wonder if your dog would figure out how to open it.

Ikea has a similar electric opener call UTRUSTA. It is made by Blum also. IKEA UTRUSTA

The blum system is very cool, DIY. I was looking for something a little less expensive, though. I'm not sure if our dog will figure the trash pullout or not. She's not the smartest poodle in the back. ; )

Is there a mid grade model between Hafele (thank you Laptop) and Blum Servo? There isn't an Ikea near here.

I would not recommend a trash pedal with dogs. Even a dumb chow hound couch potato will figure them out. Heck, my 20 lb Siamese mix cat can open cabinet doors even without an assist of a pedal.
