Sanding or refinishing terrazzo mosaic tile help

My kitchen has a hearth made of 3/4 terrazzo tile. First, I need to find some blue replacement tiles if I can to patch a few holes. If need be I can steal some from under the stove or something. But my real issue is I am trying to figure out how to refinish them. Over the years they had wood floor glued on them, had other tile mastic over them and eight decades of stains. The color goes all the way through so I am thinking of sanding but I don't know exactly what to do and would be crushed if I ruined them.

PS I already cleaned up the electric.

I'm a bit confused by your description calling it 3/4 inch terrazzo tile. Terrazzo as I know it is marble chips embedded in concrete or resin which was then ground down to a smooth surface. Yours looks more like a (maybe) marble mosaic tile. However, If the tiles are soundly attached, and as you say 3/4 inch thick you should be able to get the surface honed down and re-polished with the proper grinding and polishing equipment. You might want to find a local marble/granite fabricator/stone restoration pro who would have the equipment to tackle this.

Thanks. They appear to be 3/4in cubes of terrazzo. Maybe terrazzo is not the right word, but that is what they look like. I have not seen anything quite like them before.

Interesting. I have not heard of such a product either. However, the tools needed to re-hone the tiles would be the same if it is a terrazzo kind of material. You will need a variety of diamond polishing discs and a stone fabricators grinder/polishing machine. These are probably things that you won't want to buy, hence my suggestion to get an experienced stone fabricator to have a look at your project. Sandpaper will not be the way to go for this project.
