What color hardware with black doors?

Hi! With all the new press about black interior doors, I'm thinking of taking the leap. My decor is basically shades of white, grey, ivory, and natural wood, so it should work.

HOWEVER, I just spent the past year changing all the door hardware to oil rubbed bronze. It looks great with the Benjamin Moore satin impervo marble white doors! If I decide to paint some doors black, what about the hardware? It looks as if most black doors have contrasting hardware, but I really don't think I will change the hardware after the cost of replacing it all.

Has anyone seen black door with dark hardware? How does it look?

Cynthia: Yes, you're right. So many ideas...........................so little time:)

Olldbobbi: Hmm...That's a thought. Espresso and bronze might be more compatible that black and bronze, but still no contrast. I wonder what others think?

Oh dear...

After all that expense and bother of changing to oil rubbed bronze (which is gorgeous), you could potentially undo all that added beauty by painting the doors black.

Did you change the hinges to oil rubbed bronze too?

I recommend that you stick with the lighter coloured doors and enjoy the beautiful new hardware. If you really must paint the doors black (which is a look I love too) you'll need to change the hardware again, this time probably to nickel.

I thought so..... and yes, I did change the hinges as well. And I am certainly enjoying the beautiful new hardware. However, I'm not prepared to do that again anytime soon.

Just so tempted by that new black door look :)

I know. But you can't have everything! I'm forever seeing new products in showrooms and trade shows and I want it all, but I can't. I admire black doors and almost took the plunge a couple of years ago, but realized that it wasn't right for this house. Enjoy your fabulous doors which probably look even nicer than black doors :)

dmldml--settle down! Espresso is another name for BLACK (stain)! LOL

Are the doors natural wood or painted? I assumed they were painted, probably white.

If they are natural wood doors, say oak panels, then a richer stain would work. Not as dark as espresso though!

Oh well...I thought espresso was a very dark brown paint (not stain) color. But I'm not going there. The doors are painted a beautiful marble white color in a polished satin finish. I'm just going to enjoy them with the bronze hardware (and maybe...just maybe...I might sneak a black door into the mud room entrance). I never did change the hardware on that door!

Well, it's deep dark coffee. When I order a custom sofa and I choose the leg stain, the espresso is as dark as midnight. Brown undertones, maybe, but get two feet away from it and it's black :)

Yes, Cynthia, that's what I thought. Dark with brown undertones. Coffee! Doesn't a cup of coffee sound so good right now? Glad you brought that up!

Hi,

We are building a new home and are really leaning towards black doors for the interior. We are also installing Anderson 400 windows and the home will have a multitude of windows which are white.
My question is if nickel is the preferred hardware for the black interior doors does that mean I should use the same hardware finish for our windows? Our initial preference was to use white hardware for the windows so the blend in instead of standing out while we enjoy the various views. What do you suggest?

I have a red brick house with white trim and black wooden shutters and black door I would like a lighter brighter door but feel like Im stuck with the black door because the shutters are black , I dont wanr to go all in on both but is there another bright color that would look good if I leave the shutters black the black shutters are perfect with the color of the brick
