My sister has the same problem. Sounds like a perpetual cricket. The folks at ikea have no idea.

Did you ever find a solution to this? I've got the same problem. I'm hoping replacement transformers/remote will help but I'm kind of doubtful given this thread.

Hi - I am having the same issue and after talking with someone at the store replaced the transformer, power cord and remote. Same Problem.

What's strange is that I have 2 runs - therefore 2 transformers with separate controls. One is fine (no chirping at all), the other chirps very softly.

I will call them again and see if they've had enough complaints now to research more on their end.

Yeah I never found a solution. I thought originally it was an over-powered transformer so I was waiting to see if it would still do it with all the lights plugged in. Just finished that today and still have the same problem.

The lights work fine, just can't use the remote to turn them off.

Might try a new transformer, but IKEA isn't very close so will be awhile before I get back there.

Don't really want to go the hard wired route and get an electrician. I also thought of trying to dummy up a switch and plugging the lights into that, but I've yet to find something like that.

I've tried two replacement 30W Ansulta units, both buzz. I tried a 20W Ansulta (with only some of the lights plugged in) and it's quiet. I'm not sure if the 20s are all quieter, or if quality control is just so bad that it took me 5 to find a good one.

I decided to open up one of the buzzing ones. There are a couple components with heat sinks on them, and these seem to be the source of most of the noise. When I push down on the component with a pencil eraser it gets much quieter. An electrical engineer friend of mine thinks that the sound we're hearing (which my 64 year old father can't hear) is the sound of the transformer component (which is probably cheap and therefore operating at a lower frequency which may be in the range of hearing for some folks). He thinks the heat sink is then amplifying the sound, so for those of us with good hearing it's incredibly irritating.

I'm going to try a few things to see if I can get it to quiet down, and in the mean time I picked up a couple more 20W Ansulta units to see if they're quiet as well.

I have just had the same problem as well. Clearly they have not fixed it yet. Light works fine with on-off switch but once the remote is associated with it there is a non-stop chirping sound when set to off.

Same problem here. Just upgraded the 30W system with wireless remote and it won't stop chirping when off.
Kelly, how your experiments went? Are all 20W transformers you tried were good?

They have all the same audible cricket sound 20w / 30w/ 2 lights load or 9 lights when it turn off same issues..

I installed these two days ago. Loud chirping / "tiny siren" noise coming out of the Ansluta (Ikea) lighting transformer when turned off. When turned on, noise completely disappears. When turned on to the 50% lighting level, noise decreases. Any known fixes?

I also had the same problem of buzzing noise with the transformer. It wasn't a problem until I synchronized the remote to it. Before the remote, when I used the switch to turn the light on and off, there was no noise. But when I synchronized the remote, there was a loud buzz when the light was OFF, then a smaller buzz when the light was on DIM, and then no noise when the light was ON full.

I called IKEA and the customer help only suggested that I go to IKEA in person because he could not help me over the phone. So, I went to an IKEA salesperson to ask about it, but he had not heard of this problem before. Although he was not much of help, in my research to find the solution to the problem, I happened to notice that the transformer I bought was the $30 one but there's also a $25 dollar one. The difference being there are 3 more slots on the more expensive transformer. So I returned the $30 transformer and bought the $25 transformer, because, first of all, I'll save $5, and secondly, I wanted to see if a different transformer might make any difference. Sure enough, it worked! And my remote is the same first remote. I did not have to purchase a new remote.

Same problem as others - have both 20W and 30W transformers and two installations. On the first it is just a 20W transformer and it is quiet. The other one has a 20W and and 30W transformers connected together. These are the ones that buzz, but it is more of chirping sound that is the loudest with the lights off, quieter with the lights dimmed, and completely quiet with the lights on full power. I tried different combinations of the two transformers and it seems that it doesn't go away no matter what I do, but it is only on the transformer that's the first in the series; regardless which one it is. I am going to talk to someone at Ikea, but I am skeptical I will find out anything useful and best case scenario they'll tell me to replace them. Looks to me like Ikea has a quality issue here.

Mine chirps too like crickets, but I've decided to like it! From now on it's a summer night in this room when the lights are off.

Same problem. I have my remote set up and I was testing it out before I hooked up the other 6 lights. The buzzing happens when the lights are off. Gets quieter when I have the dimmer setting and it disappears when they're on. I'm going to see how much it bothers me over the next little while, but will likely try and purchase the $25 power bar as msong did.

I have the same problem. too bad I've already wired it up RE plastered the drywall and installed stone veneer and a solid glass backsplash.... I'm going to install small on off switch to the transformer but no doubt it's annoying too me. thank god my wife dosent notice it or I'd be starting this reno all over again... if there's any fix for this dimmer I'd like to find one...

I have exactly the same problem. I'm considering taking the lights down and returning them. I will try the 20W transformer, however I am getting tired of all the trips to Ikea to buy additional items and try them out. I also noticed that when I use the switch to turn the lights on and off there is a delay in the response from the lights - similar to a flourescent light starting up. Has anyone experienced this delay?

This lights add up in cost when doing a kitchen. This should not be happening. It's too bad because it is a great system that allows for various configurations.

Hi - anyone got any updates on solutions for this? We are having it also on our 30W transformer, but no the 20W one. I Don't want to take it out and return to Ikea for another unit which might be as bad based on what people are saying here. Are there any alternati e remote controls that work without dimming?

I have the same problems with mine- 30W version. I have 3 of them but two are behind cabinets and you cant hear the cricket buzz. One is on top of a bank of cabinets and it drives me crazy. Talked to Ikea about it and them claim they never heard about any problem. Could be because most transformers are behind cabinets and you cant hear it. I'm going to try the 20 W version and see what the result is. (Just don't want to waste time back at the store, again) In any case, Ikea has a quality control issue here that they should rectify.

The chirping noise you are hearing is common to all LED drivers. The main reason is that LED brightness is controlled using a PWM signal. Basically current is switched on and off at a certain frequency in order to control the LED brightness. The problem arises when this frequency happens to fall in the audible range, and when that happens you get the buzzing sound. I imagine when a user connects the wireless switch, the driver must activate a certain part of the circuit that enables the PWM signal that control the brightness. More expensive LED drivers use better components that do not exhibit this behavior, but since this is an Ikea product, I imagine they are using the cheapest components they can get their hands on in order to keep the cost down.

My problem with my ikea undercounterlights is that each section flickers shortly after about 10 seconds. Is there a way to fix this? i cannot take them off becouse the tiles were put on afterwards and grout got put around the lights.

Can somebody help?
