I like it as it is.

I like the white wash, or keep as is and get a nice fireplace screen to dress it up.

Whitewash

I appreciate the feedback. I will probably try whitewashing first to tone it down and then see how it looks. It seems messy so I will have to do that while our son is asleep (he is 1). Wish us luck.

I would just build a better wood surround it just looks a bit blocky

i agree adding a "proper" wooden FP surround will enhance the FP and play down on the brick.

How about a lighter"feel" coffee table and leave the fireplace alone? Something with metal and glass that would appear lighter in feel and reflect light would look great. This would eliminate the hearth competing with the coffee table. Something in an oval shape would soften the hard lines in the room and repeat the round lines of your stool.

I would leave as is, as the warm brick tones and style suit your room, but I would think about adding molding on either side, so there is not so much brick (whether you leave as is or whitewhash). You could move your couch back quite a bit, so your coffee table is further away, which will also help with reducing the heaviness in that area (unless you have it there, so your child is not able to access the stone ledge).

It's up to you, you have many choices. I got tired of the brick look, and really wanted to tile, decided to paint, did this over a weekend for $100 am very happy with the results. See photos below

Bright pillows and blanketts + a coffetable in glass Will do the trick.

White wash & a screen. Make sure the screen isn't too bulky too over power the focal point of the fireplace. ☺️

Thanks for all of your feedback. A glass coffee table won't work with our 1 year old boy. We also just purchased the coffee table you see in there. It's a solid wood tapered leg piece that we love. This is a bad photo because it makes it look like all of the furniture is pushed together. In reality there is ample room to walk in front of the coffee table between the fireplace.

I love the idea of a wood surround but don't see how that could work with the lack of walls on each side of the fireplace and with the large brick hearth.

I am leaning whitewash or paint so the fireplace isn't such a focal point.

Thoughts on dove white in satin?
