yes the Japanese maple is absolutely staying - it does need to be trimmed but overall I love it. I really need advice about what to do to bulk up the other area under the left window. Would dwarf Rhods. be a good choice or I do something taller. I considered tying the beds together but I think I need to start by focusing on foundation plantings.

I think your maple is beautiful. Would trim it, though. In the front left I would really focus on simple foundation plantings and grass. Maybe tighten up your perennial garden in front. I love perennials but in front I feel it gets a little distracting. Good idea to balance the maple.

Hi Kelly, gorgeous Japanese maple! We love them and have several varieties in our yard. Our most recent purchase was a Coral Bark Japanese maple...lovely. We also have crape myrtles.

Regarding the left side of your yard...you might take some photos to a local nursery and ask for suggestions.

Remove the Japanese Maple, and reduce the lawn.

I would definitely tie the bed with the Japanese maple to the one on the left.
