I'm assuming you aren't a fan or the glass tile because of the shine, probably to busy as with the decorative pattern options. This kitchen does a nice job of blending a black counter with a warmer wood. The backsplash is a tumbled marble subway tile to give the wall texture but mute the color palette. The decorative feature over the stove could obviously be removed and replace to look like the rest of the backsplash.

Another option is more of a natural stone subway tile with a small decorative ribbon. The ribbon could pull some of the tones from the counters while remaining neutral.

I would recommend installing a plug inside one of your cabinets so you could easily install under cabinet lights while you're still in the installation phase. You will be so please with your granite counter; especially, when you see it enhanced by lighting.
