This may not be the best forum for this question. If so...sorry. My wife's car, a 2006 RAV's passenger window switch started acting up. Sometimes it would work, sometimes not. I could find no pattern. (Note...it was not the master window lockout!) Anyway I bought and replaced a new switch using an OEM part. Out of curiosty I took the old one apart and noticed the contacts were quite dirty. I figured I solved the problem. Indeed, the new switch works better and more consistently. But it fails now and then. I found a pattern, sort of.
If you get in the car and use the passenger side switch before the driver opens it with the switch..it seems to work almost every time. If however you put the window down a bit using the driver's side switch first...the passenger side won't work. Use the drivers side to nudge it up a bit...suddenly the passenger side works fine. This seems to be a pattern most of the time.
Now if I play with the drivers side several times in a row...up down up down up down then anything goes on the passenger side...sometimes it works fine others not.
Any ideas of what could be going on. I know there are the switches, motors and relays...not sure what a relay is. The car is older, and the dealer just suggested replacing everything...which seems ridiculous and expensive. They wanted $68 for the switch alone and told me the entire door needed to come apart to replace it. I bought a new switch for $28 and installed it myself in less the 45 seconds by simply popping the trim the switch sits in off.
