How to put together this room?

I have a wonderfully large living space with a beautiful wooden beamed ceiling. The windows on one side have a scenic view but the opposite wall has a fireplace. What should I do as far as furniture layout? Paint color? Minimally invasive lighting on that particular ceiling? (recessed lighting unfortunately is not possible.)

Thanks in advance!

Whatever you do ,do NOT paint that ceiling

Your ceiling is gorgeous! That said, I would keep the walls neutral so it really stands out. I would paint the bookcases around the fireplace. Do you have any furniture that you'll be using?

I find the ceiling very heaavy looking in the space I think I would paint the flat areas white and leave the beams, and paint the built-ins the same color as the ceiling check out cable lighting it is very simple and works well for bringing the light down where it is more efficient as for funiture layout 2 large sofas facing

eachother in fron t of the fireplace should give you both views I do however think you will get better help with a floor plan a couple more pictures

Do not paint the ceiling anywhere....and if you just I would wait until everything else is painted and decorated and lived with for a while first...that ceiling is very on trend right now, many people paying high dollar to add it to their homes...live with it finished and decorated for a good while before rushing into paint, too dark now will be ok when lighting and paint as well as soft furnishings come into the room

I agree with Brandi . Do not paint the ceiling!

I thought of Pottery Barn ( completely NOT my design style) immediately when I saw your lovely room with gorgeous views! This is one welcoming room and I think you should give PB run by with one of their designers.

The store could probably do everything on line from soup to nuts and they do paint colors to coordinate with furnishing too.......They used to do BM paints but I think they might have switched to Sherwin Williams? I think the whole room could be done before Thanksgiving. One stop shopping and shipping for sure!

PS Oversized multiple chandies from that gorgeous ceiling. Candles would be organic and romantic!

Leave the ceiling alone, no paint, no lighting. Paint the walls a warm color I lean toward a tan and not the current rage of gray. Consider multiple seating areas, one in front of the fireplace and another near or in front of the window. You didn't mention a TV, which will change things, since it's only location will be at one end or the other of the room.

Not sure what you have or plan to get for this room or how you plan to use the space but here are some flexible arrangements:

Nowhere to recess lighting, but if wire could extend across beams, what about these pendants / sold in 3 sizes? Sort of floor tone....

2nd tropical lighting by Mooi [?] but it's that idea..

Hard to find a photo/ this shows how one piece could be a backless daybed/couch... people talk and look toward either side of long room... what are dimensions anyway?

Swivel chairs do that for you too. 2 rugs likely, to define each area?

I wouldn't prefer chocolate or black pieces much / as said many have that dark feeling from ceiling... you could if you have a fairly uniform look, paint a medium tone in upper triangles, like what Brandi suggested.. but all painted seems ok... you know there are interesting items you could place there if you like that look [often antique-type at restaurants]... a wood piece in middle of triangle, and 2+ actual oars on each side....

Revere pewter paint...but partly depends on what furniture you have planned. What is your style - not that you asked about that... :)
