I think the closest rug size would be a 5X8 which would still work in that space. I wouldn't go smaller than that. Hope you find something that works! I think I remember a rug similar to the one you posted on there but it's been a while. Happy shopping!

I know you centered the rug but visually I think it would be better starting right at the front door and ending at the wall where the console table is. Leaving the tile open in front of the stairs. Plus it could be a tripping hazard coming down the stairs.

Okay, I went to the rug store, that was overwhelming! But I'm on a test drive with this one, 5x8. I know it's not even close to my inspiration one...that would have been $2500 and he recommended not that type of rug at entry with kids and dogs and cats.

This rug does have the colors that are most peeve last throughout my home, so thoughts? I haven't placed it under console yet, and I have it only going to just past console on stair wall

I think you've found a winner! It Goes very nicely with the artwork, and it doesn't "scream" at you when you walk in the door.

Also is it going to be too difficult to find a complementary rug for the living room, the room straight in front of door next pool?

I think you'll be able to find a rug for your living room easily. Could you post pics of that room, too? BTW, ,I like your small art inyour entry. I don't think you really NEED to replace it with a mirror.

I love the art piece over the entry console too, the scale maybe a bit off but I'd love to make it work, but the idea of a large round mirror also intrigues me.

This rug with the art work is really not a good combination. Take it back. This is not the right kind of rug for your foyer. What is with the artwork. Why is it perched on the floor? Did you mean to hang it over the console?

I vote for something like your first choice with more "pop". It's too dark but the size is good. I think it needs to have some off-white in it to tie in to your seating group.

The rug you got is the perfect size, but way too busy. Center the rug in front of the door and let the console sit on top.

Here are some rug selections for the foyer. All are from Overstock and are polypropylene so they can withstand the entrance,kids and dogs. I think you can go either way with a mirror or art over the entry sideboard. Do you have a piece of art in mind?

I think the one you bought is best & goes with the art, however please hang the art on the wall.

I just returned from dropping the rug off...glad it seems that we made a good call- we agree about it being to dark, and a bit too busy!

@BeverlyFLADeziner the artwork is on the floor generally placed in the location....we just moved in three weeks ago and I don't want to randomly place holes in the walls until I'm sure of location and height.). It will not be placed over console.
Do you have a suggestion of a rug that would work in this location?

I agree that the inspiration rug was beautiful, but I can't seem to find one similar or in a price range acceptable( I would like to purchase the entry run 5x8 or 6x9 for no more than 700.). I think this rug, though pretty was like you say to dark and needed some ivory and less red. Guess we are still on the hunt :-)

That's a beautiful rug, and I can now see how the one I had was to busy and competed with the large art, though had all the colors I was looking for.
I'm not sure about the amount of blue and the large pattern of white on the rug you placed-but defiantly better than the one I chose! Thanks again!

I lthink Home Good can have some great area rugs! Have you tried them? Also on line Ithink you can order the smallest size and see if it works in your home with color/pattern then order in size you need? Exhausting work!

Thanks @Soosun2! I stopped buy home goods today to check their rug selection before returning the test drive rug. We didn't see anything there today that caught our eye, but they seem to change over regularly. We will continue to search...exhausting is correct, I thought "let's go get a rug". Who knew this was such an ordeal and that there are so many rugs? I'm sure it will all work out in the end though and the process will just be a faint memory!

This is not the rug I would recommend to you. It seems your living room is a bit more contemporary, and this rug with this sideboard lean traditional. I would recommend this rug below or any of the others over your selection.

Earlier I thought maybe the middle on the right of your suggestions based on the fact that the pattern wasn't so big, but after seeing the image you posted, I agree the first one is too much-but the blues are beautiful! After seeing your renderings I like the look of #2 & #4. But love the richness of the colors in #3, but it may be to busy.
Love the cost of these rugs for an entryway piece! And at such a reasonable cost, I wouldn't feel bad about deciding to go another way in a few years!
I'll continue to peruse the sights suggested...my husband said he's done for the night with thinking about rugs :-). Tomorrow is a new day! Thanks again.

I like this one for your home. It is a bit global in appearance and I think will complement your home. Even though it's polypropylene, it has a bit of thickness for a luxury feel. You won't know the exact color until it's in your home.

This rug is really beautiful. The size seems to work well. My only concern would be the fringe, tends to look a bit messy. Will you be entering here with messy boots and such? I would be worried about that with a more expensive rug.

Thank you tgb1 for commenting! We just moved here to sunny San Diego, so I don't think there is too much weather, besides being really hot and humid lately(but I've been told this is unusual! It is in the entryway however so it will get some traffic, we also come into home from the garage entry often.

Good to know about your weather. I used to have a Bokhara rug - which yours seems very similar to - and it was the softest, silkiest rug I've ever owned. Really felt great with bare feet : ) I'd actually love to own another someday...

Yes I think you are correct on the type of rug, @tgb1. Bokhara torkaman rug ?? At least those are the words my husband told me. It is really beautiful and has nice details. I believe with proper care and professional dusting and washing every couple of years it will last a while and bring something different to our home.

Btw, you mention that you used to have a similar rug-what happened to it? I've been reading about care, spills, and routine maintenance...so just curious.

I prob owned mine for over 20 years, and for all that time it was in our family room - the most used room in the house. It withstood several dog and child messes over the years. Mine was black with terracotta markings on it, so you really couldn't see a lot of stains, but where it got the most use it sort of flattened out, lost its silky-ness if that makes sense. The parts that remained under the furniture remained soft. The fringe also got ripped from the corners, which is why I'm a bit anti-fringe now. I realize that the fringe can be sewn back on, I just think it's a rug that is a tad delicate for such heavy daily use. I still love that style, and would love to get one for my living room whenever I redo that room.

I've had my rug like that for over 20 years. In our much used living room the first 10 years, in our family room the last 13 years. Still looks great.
I love that these rugs are so versatile style wise.

Wow @tgb1. Glad to hear that your rug stood up to what I lovingly refer to as the "zoo" of raising a family! I understand what you mean about the fringe and from what I've researched seems to be a common problem and the first thing to show wear and tear. I'll have to keep an eye on that. I'm hoping that using this rug in the entry and having the immediate family enter from the garage most of the time will help reduce its daily wear.

Please forgive my ignorance @BeverlyFLADeziner! I'm not sure which of the two art pieces is considered graphic art ;-(. I just buy what I like.
But I was thinking-now that I have the rug picked out that either a mirror as suggested earlier in the post or some art, if you were talking about the plane piece, I think it looks too small for the space, even after its hanging on the wall. The large canvas piece I still think will be placed on the large wall at end of entry? I really only have two places hat it might fit due to it size.
What are your thoughts for what I should do above the entry console, I'm all ears and eyes lol! Thanks again!
