We have bought raw hickory handrails that need to be stained. Since we don't know anything about it, can someone briefly explain the process? How many coats of stain, how long to wait between coats, and maybe most importantly, what are your suggestions for the products to be used?

If we decide to hire somebody for this project, where and who do we look for?

General painters or specialist... what would be your advice?
