We recently bought our first home, and just picked out our new furniture last night. Our dilemma is that we don't know what to do about a rug. We just bought a rug that we really like, but after measuring our furniture (a couch, loveseat, 2 end tables and coffee table), we realized that it would not completely fit all of furniture on our 9 x 12 rug.

My question is, does all of our furniture need to fit on the rug, or can some be half on and half off? Or should we buy a smaller rug so that only the coffee table fits on it, and the couch, loveseat and end tables are on the hardwood floors? I don't think we can afford to buy a rug bigger than the 9 X 12 one that we have...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
