As long as you accept the characteristics of marble, then you should be OK. It will stain, it will etch, but it has a beauty that cannot be replicated. I have lots of clients who use it. But they understand that it has to be sealed, and treated more carefully than other materials. I once had a client who put it on her island, then used plastic to cover it for months. If that is going to be your reaction, then use a different material.
Some of the quartz materials (natural stone) such as Super White, and Antarctica give a similar soft look.
