it's very close to being the same color, but perhaps the variegation will be enough to give you decent contrast. (you don't want to feel like you're inside an oak box!)

Would you suggest going solid? Lighter or darker? The cupboard colour is staying so have to work with it...

There is so much variation in that sample of flooring that by the time a whole room was laid with that, I don't think you'd have to worry about it looking the same as the cabinets. Your floor is probably going to end up more black and gray than pine colored if he rest of the flooring is the same as that, but it probably isn't as all flooring has a huge amount of variation in it.

We think the flooring works with the cabinets and agree, especially if most of it is in the darker tones shown on the picture.

To me it looks too similar. It's like having a wihte tile floor with white cupboards and appliances. (Or, as Heidi Klum woud say, "too matchy-matchy").

I think the coloring is fine, but I don't like the oak grain of the cabinets with the pine grain of the flooring. I think that clashes. I think I would try a slate tile as already suggested.

The pine will look good with the oak, especially as mentioned if the darker variations are laid closer to the cabinets. Make sure you place the sample the way the boards will be installed. Your floor joists will dictate which way the boards run.

I had a client use 5" Hickory flooring in her kitchen with Hickory cabinets, with darker variations near the cabinets so it didn't meld in or disappear; the same warm tones helped for the joining look next to existing 3" oak floors.

I think it's great and the colors will anchor the kitchen

Thanks everyone for the comments, I appreciate the input. Our house is open concept, so a large living room adjoins to dining area and kitchen and i want the same flooring in all areas. Therefore I want to stick with a wood look because I don't want slate in my living room. Our foyer is large & the tile will be confined to it.

Love the pine... not so much the oak. You could always paint/distress the cabinets :)

I agree with Lori in liking the floor pine but not the oak cabinets. Since you want wood flooring throughout your home and you say you love the pine go for it. You could paint the cabinets in antique looking ivory, green or blue. However, you will have to have them professionally stripped and spray painted with kitchen grade paint or lacquer for durability. I know because we did this to our kitchen oak and I love the change.
