install outdoor lamp post

I posted in another forum, not realizing that this one would be more appropriate. I am planning to install an aluminum light post directly
into the ground 24 inches deep, without concrete (which is how the old one was
installed 65 years ago) and would like to know what kind of paint/coating to
use for extra corrosion protection of the underground portion. I
am thinking of automobile undercoating (3M). However the label says it is
"water resistant" not "water proof” and I am not sure what
"resistant" means. Do you think this would be OK? Other ideas?

The post is extruded
0.125 inch Aluminum 3 inches diameter by 96 inches long, black powder coating. The
idea is to keep soil and groundwater away from the metal.
