My first thought is for you to head over to the library and check out the appliance issue of Consumer Reports. They will have done the testing to rate the popular appliances according to price and features. Armed with that information, you are ready to go shopping. Go first to the locally owned appliance center. They are usually the most knowledgeable about their products, though they get whipped by the big box places on price, anything you missed on CR, they will fill you in. Then head over to the big box and check price...you could call I suppose..but that is my idea of a waking nightmare. Then head home and hit the internet, by now you have make, model and price...you are just making sure that a better deal is not available. Google your models and numbers. Is the price better? Did either of the local companies offer price matching for internet sales (I got that recently with an entire house full of lighting....my local supplier beat the internet all hollow)? Place your orders, get the specs to your cabinet people...it makes a difference as there is no standard anymore....too much variety, too many options..and lots of things are built in in some way or another. Electrical and plumbing connection locations are now specified by the manufacturer for each appliance. Of course, I could just tell you what to do, what to buy and where to buy it...but then you don't learn a how to do things for yourself.
