New. major designs dilemmas!

I recently bought a new house. 4bd, 2 1/2 bath. For the half bath downstairs, I can not decide on a wall color. I painted it a medium tan color, but it looks terrible. The sink and toilet are white. the fixtures in the bath are chrome and it has an oval mirror. I fell in love with these light teal bathroom decor I found at Home Goods, but I don't know what wall color will really make this bathroom pop! please help! I have NO interior designs skills.

if you love the colours in the towel I would go a tone lighter than the lighter teal colour in it. Or for a more conservative wall colour match the beige/tan colour in the towel. These are safe bets but I'm sure some professionals may have some other ideas.

Here is your rug next to three colors. BM chocolate mousse, Gliddens pink beige, and BM basking ridge beige. You can clearly see how much pink there is in the beige in the rug. Enlarging the paint chips on the scram like this does distort the colors some though!

Oh by the way Jtm, when you match the color for the ceiling be sure to go at least one color lighter on the color card. It will read darker when it is on your ceiling, believe me!

thanks so much for all the ideas guys! waking up to tons of great colors! I really like pinky beige color! and I read on here earlier that pink is a color that goes with teal/aqua! I'm going by Home Depot to see what they have! thanks soooo much!

I would do a chocolate brown, keep accessories to a bare minimum. Maybe French Press? No words on walls, etc.

Throwing in a monkey wrench here...have you given any thought to wallpaper? Always a nice statement. I'm assuming no showering in room, right?

ok, so the paint was dry so I was able to put the stuff back in the bathroom. ted I also placed the rug against the wall so you could see it compared to the color in the rug.

what do you guys think of these colors? it's the behr marquee line at Home Depot. these were some of the pinky beiges or pinks I saw

espencer, no, no shower. just a pedestal sink and a toilet. it's a small half bath downstairs

Well, less moisture would allow for paper. But, doesn't seem as if you want to go in that direction.

It may just be the angle of your shot but is the mirror too large above the sink? You wouldn't want that to overwhelm your efforts.

Everyone will have different ideas. Good luck with your decision. You have several options!

it may just be the angle the mirror is a medium sized oval. I have full picture of it a couple comments up from when the bathroom was plain

Yea, that wall color has too much yellow in it. I think the last pinky beige you posted might work , get a swatch or two and see. Your floor is also a pinky beige.

Yup, just got up:) the Glidden pink beige or Beurr soft shoe could both work here. What kind of lighting do you have. Not sure if you want to keep the mirror, your call.

I tried to get as far back as possible to get a full shot. the lighting is just just a chrome fixture that is over the mirror, that has two lights.

You might want to think about looking for a mirror with a frame, something with an interesting shape. It could even be an older piece you paint and distress a bit. This is a chance to add some personality to this small space. Not sure we're your lighting is but too is an opportunity.

Ok, I see that now! I think that towel bar needs to be moved. It looks craned in there. Get a towel ring for that spot and put he Yoel bar on the side wall.

I'm not suggesting you spend a lot of money, look for an interesting mirror at a tag sale or consignment shop and chalk paint it if need be.

Yea, that's why I've been having such a hard time. this space is small and plain. a toilet, a pedestal sink, a mirror and light fixture, and a towel rack. not much to work with, that's why I knew I had to do cool colors and designs. And everytime i went to Home Goods, these teal/aqua bathroom accessories just kept catching my eye, so I got them as a starting point.

Try Sherwin Williams Kilim Beige SW6106. Use eggshell for half bath, semi-gloss if full bath. This color may match the beige in the rug that you posted.

Well some people do like a shiny finish on their walls. I personally don't and never have, using a quality paint such as BM Matt finish which is scrub able and has just a hint of sheen is fine in a bathroom these days especially if you have a good vent system.

Ha Ted! We do agree on most things don't we :) ! It is hard to pick a color on line, that is true. I don't think the wall color needs to be an exact match as the floor or rug, just the right shade. As long as it doesn't clash , the rug will look great. Looking at the colors in the rug, a pinker beige souls do the trick.

I think I would buy a little wooden or glass shelf to attach above the toilet to use for some of your accessories. Powder rooms can go very bold. Since it only takes one quart to paint it, go with a glitzy color with a metallic sheen in one of the darker shades of the rug. When doing the ceiling use only a drop of the wall color in a flat white ceiling paint.

Hey guys! ok so I've been out all day running around. Here are some things I found. i decided on the pinky beige.....so I went with a Behr Marquee color called Suede Beige. I brought on of my bath accessories with me and it went really well. I also found these pictures that had some of the colors in it. what do you think?

lol. well see what they say. yea, I soooo had to go to the store and look at the actual color cards. those ones I posted earlier, look NOTHING like that off screen. that's how I ended up pickin a whole new color

I would rather see just one good piece of art than a bunch of small stuff. That doesn't mean you have to spend a lot either; take your time. You may find just the right thing who knows we're! It doesn't have to be new. Check second hand stores for a nice old seascape with a gold frame. A sea fan in a shadow box. Etc. it doesn't need to be perfect either, sometimes they look nicer that way:)

If you like to DIY, you can buy sea fans on eBay and get a shadow box from Michael's, Hobby Lobby, etc.

lol. ok, so I'll check out some other paintings. I got those at Marshalls. They actually had something like the shells in the shadow box. they were all white tho. I didn't even get a chance to paint the bathroom tonight, because I was so busy redoing my kitchen, I'm gonna have to paint in the morning. I'll look for some different pieces of art in the am too.

I think you need more drama. Normally I'm not a wall paper fan, but it could work well here. You like that rug pattern so you are not afraid of pattern, are you? So maybe put the pattern on the walls?

Numerous paintings by Monet are seascapes, lilly ponds, etc. and have all the colors you want. Try searching art.com - select Monet, and there are thousands of choices; choose giglee prints, for the best quality. You can purchased framed or unframed; very cheap to frame yourself. They often have 35% to 40% off all art sales. You can probably find paintings of seashells, palmtrees, beaches, etc. - it is endless on that site.
