Like the rug shown or something similar. You have way too many plants and flowers around . Freely cluttered. Like the curtains but could you do simple panels wit an interesting rod and no swag. Looks like the lamps are the same. Put them both behind the sofa, on the ends of the sofa table. Change white shades to straight black ones. Do you have or can you get a longer one table. The place a large piece of art over the table.

Maybe paint the wall burnt orange and find a rug with blue and gold as dominant colors. Agree there are too many accessories.

Buy that first piece of art from Jimmy and hang it 5" above the sofa back once you move the sofa table behind the loveseat. Eliminate everything that Beverly crossed off in the photo. Lower the art that is left of the door so its center point is 5' above the floor. Take the two buffet lamps to the dining room. Get a pair of slim urn shaped lamps that will bring the total height of your table/lamp vignettes to 58-64" above the floor. Paint the walls in Sherwin Williams Sea Salt.

Well now that you have show us a bit more of the room, are you sure the layout for this room is the best? That huge back wall could handle a large piece of millwork or cabinetry.

Art can be as large as 75% of the sofa's width. I get the impression a great portion of your space is unused or under utilized. Can we see photos of all four walls? You'll get much better input that way. Comment and use the Photo button to add more pix.

No burnt orange wall...go with a beautiful art that will bring out your warm tones in the room...I think your wall color is very nice and sophisticated!
I agree also way to many accessories...and please no fake plants..your room is to nice to have fake..try one real plant large leaf in a beautiful ceramic pot.

I agree with most of the people here. First things would be remove the plants and add an area rug. Then a large black or dark metal framed mirror on the back wall would look really nice.

Art, no mirror for that huge wall.

How about a stunning water feature in an antique blackened copper finish like our Sunrise Springs model shown below? It is a artistic focal point while at the same time adding ambiance to your room and tying it all together. You do not need a designated water line and installation is simple.

This bold art pair would be absolutely perfect for your wall above sofa...they are from zgallery...I have seen them in person and they are gorgeous! They are limited additions signed and numbered...I think for the price are outstanding! Now that I have seen other part of your home..purple wall...these are a bold choice like your purple wall...and would really work well. Size is amazing.

Your room is beautiful! I like the colors you've chosen! The current wall color complements your accessories and curtains well. Good for you for choosing such pretty statement-making curtains! I agree that an area rug incorporating the orange/gold/cream colors would look great. Also agree to remove a few of the plants and decor items. Keep the ones you like the best. I'm not into modern art. If you are, then some of the suggested ones look nice. I have found some nice art at Ballard Designs (.com). Etsy also sells some pretty original art. The tall wall would look nice with Beverly's cabinet idea in either the color she shows or a warm pine color (as long as it has a deep enough hue to show up against the wall.) Decorating isn't always easy, but just take your time and it will work out great! Only buy things that you really like and that fits your personal style. You've got great instincts!

I see more plants that could be removed. Have you considered two club chairs facing the sofa. Would round out the conversational area.

Love the purple next door, and if you're that daring, I don't think orange would be a bad thing around the fireplace. It will need to be a shade from the swags. Try centering the coffee table with the firebox opening. Bring the sofas to within 18" of the table. Then use painter's tape to tape out a virtual rug that will slip under the front 1/3 of the sofas and extend past the ends by at least a foot or so. If possible, use the bench from the corner out in the foyer, on the stairwell wall. Your plants all look to be the real deal, so consider a custom gravel filled rubber container in that corner where you can cluster a lot of them under the ficus. A sunroom would be perfect for them and could have a more friendly floor for pots to sit on.

I'm making progress - I have hired a designer for custom panels and I will putchase a rug. What size contemporary lamps/shades do I need? I will post photos once my project is complete.

Posting the additional photos makes a huge difference. I do think you have too many small knickknacks around the space (especially plants). I also think your sofa is probably too small for that wall. Maybe your new designer will help you out with that.

I specialize in very large artwork. You shouldn't fill up your entire wall with artwork, but large artwork will do wonders for that wall.

Each listing comes in many sizes.

I think she is hiring someone for custom drapes..not a interior designer...but it is a great start.
I love Smith $ Noble.com they will have a local representative come to your home and measure and brings all fabric books and trims for you to pick from...I have used them for so many projects...and I found a 35% of designer coupon they will let you use when you hire the designer through them....I am so happy with the results in my home...stationary panels with decorative wide trim on leading edge and natural woven shades on each window..they installed everything and ordered the hardware I needed too! You may want to have them give you and estamite. The treatments arrive in about 2 weeks rather than 8-12 like most custom drapery stores. Good Luck with your beautiful home!

That's so much nicer, drapery vs the swags, the rug pulls the room together, set up and art are great and less is more. Lovely
