I am also trying to determine pull size for my various drawer sizes, so
will be watching this thread with interest, although I think it really
just boils down to personal preference. I thought I would do 8" pulls
on both my 33" and 37" drawers, but after looking at your pictures
Erica, I think I like the 6" for the 33 and 8" on the 39". I definitely
prefer the smaller one on the pullout. I think wider pulls generally
tend to give the space a more modern feel.

I also did two pulls on drawers 30" & larger.

My lower drawers are mostly between 34" and 36" wide. I used Amerock Mulholland pulls and the largest available was 160mm (6.29in) without going to a $$$ appliance pull. I very strongly prefer a single pull. My kids' dressers have double knobs and the drawers are getting racked from only pulling on one knob. I frequently only have one hand available when I'm opening drawers so I used a single pull in the center.

I would have preferred 8" if they'd been available and I think I'd go with 8" in your situation.

I guess I should have said that I don't want 2 pulls on any of the bigger drawers. I would prefer just one. I'm thinking I need 8" for the most part. It won't cost anymore for shipping at this point so I may just order a lot of extras and then decide!

I wanted long pulls, I thought they'd be more modern and didn't realize they'd be so pricey. Mine are 14" on 34" and 36" drawers, on the cleanup wall I have 6.5" on 29" drawers (except below the sink - because we wanted towel bars). I ended up using all pulls including on uppers, because I couldn't find knobs that looked right to me.

It IS difficult and I think ordering lots of extras is wise!

Well, as usual I'm torn. My gut wants to say go with the smaller 6" on everything because I like the symmetry of all the same size handles, and because I prefer the look of the smallest functional pull as possible. But then, I also think the 8" would look fine on the drawers and maybe the 4" on the small pullout.

For reference, my 36" drawers have an almost 7" pull at the widest part. Amerock revitalize. I think it looks plenty big and functions well.

Here's a terrible picture. My drawers need adjusting still so the gaps are spaced better. On the to-do list! :-)

Erica - do you have samples of the different RH pulls in hand? I believe you stated the dimensions are center to center. Just an FYI, my pulls are a little over an inch longer than the CC length.

I went w/ 3 different sizes:

-3 3/4" for upper cabinets

-5" for 18" drawers & under sink cabinet/trash pullout

-6 1/4" for 36" and 39" drawers

I went with different sizes as well- pretty much kept to the 1/3 rule on all my horizontal pulls. Decision fatigue had set in at that point ;) I love the results.

Unfortunately I don't have any on hand because our nearest store is a "Gallery" and doesn't stock stuff to buy. And I didn't want to spend $20 on shipping for a few pulls only to have to spend $75 when I ordered the all!

I hadn't taken into account the ends adding an extra possible 1" so maybe I really need to do the 6" since that means it's more like 7". I'm just going to order a 6" and 8" pull for drawers in question.

Any thoughts on what size knob? It's either 1" or 1.25"... stiles (or rails) are 1 7/8".

I have 1" knobs on a narrow 5" drawer - it seems small to open a regular sized cabinet door. I have 1.25" knobs on all the other uppers. Here are pics with a measuring tape. If you need another pic with the measuring tape elsewhere, no problem. What did we do before camera phones?

I've always admired Breezygirl's sensibilities and style. I hope she won't mind that I'm reposting this bit from her reveal, related to pulls:

Drawers
30" wide stacks and wider have 8" pulls
18-24" stacks have 6" pulls
17" drawers have 4" pulls

Cabs (very few)
all pulls are horizontal on cabs
11" doors have 4" pulls
15" doors have 6" pulls

I used one 128mm (Amerock sizing) for 30" or wider drawers and 96mm for all drawers/pull out that are less than 30".

I bought two knobs/pulls from RH before, if you call the store, they can do free shipping for you (at least for mine when I ordered about a year ago). You can try calling the store and see if they can waive the shipping cost for you. I was told all cabinet hardware ship free if you order through the store. Good luck!

Edited: All my uppers have 1.25" Schaub 711 knobs. I once thought of using 1" but it was too small, now that I have been using 1.25" for a year, it's the perfect size!

I used a variety of sizes of Amerock Highland Ridge... Naturally I made a spreadsheet to detail everything.

For my big drawers (30"+), I used the 160mm size.
For my drawers that weren't quite as big, plus the trash pullout & dishwasher, I went with the 128mm.
My top drawers over the big drawers were split into two, so I went with the smaller 96mm.
Then I have 2 flip up narrow cabinets over the fridge/pantry, so I used the small 3" pull on those.
And I also have appliance pulls for my fridge/freezer/pantry.

For my knobs on the cabinets, I used the larger size (1-1/4") of and Emtek knob. I first got the smaller (1") size and they were too small.

The rule of thumb is that pulls should be 1/3 of drawer width. If you are deciding between two pull widths, simply take cardboard and cut it in the sizes of the 2 pull sizes you are considering. Wrapping the cardboard in aluminum foil helps with the visual. Hold the two templates up to the drawer, and you will be able to see which size looks best.

I suggest keeping one handle of each size when you return, because you never know.

Keep thinking about this - with shaker doors do you consider the total width of door or inside panel? All my drawers are about 5" shorter on the inside panel compared to overall drawer.

It also depends on the size of your kitchen, to my eye -- in my small kitchen I felt that larger pulls (like the 1/3 rule of thumb) on the 36" drawers were visually too much, so I use a single 5" which has been working just fine. An 8" size might have been fine too but I was tired of decisions. I used 5" on everything, from 9" wide pullout to upper cabs (I don't like knobs on tall cabinets). BUT if my kitchen were more spacious or spread out, I would have gone with larger pulls on the 36" drawers for sure.

It would have to be a special situation (ie nothing else would work) for me to use a 3" pull.

Thanks kwb1999. They are Conestoga doors. (But it's a custom style - they didn't have any Shaker doors with a cove bead- it cost a bit extra per door (~$10 per door).
