Your kitchen is not as bad as you think it is - a little too much HGTV will convince everyone their kitchen needs work:)

Your cabinets do not look yellowish or too golden as happens when the finish ages on some cabinets. The doors are much nicer than many oak cabinets - there is no arch. Those cabinets still sell in my area. Your kitchen also looks very functional.

Painting cabinets is a ton of work and you do need to be a patient DIY person. If not, you should hire a professional and unfortunately it can be expensive. I have seen too many poorly painted cabinets at open houses, and I think that is more off putting than oak cabinets. Oak is not considered a paint grade wood because the grain texture can be seen through the paint. This does not bother many people, especially if their cabinets were worn and sad looking. It does bother some because it is a clue that these are cabinets that have been painted. Many paint to get some more years out of their cabinets with the intent to replace or reface when they can afford it. Also, wood moves with changes in temp and humidity which often cracks the paint at the joints. Again, not a big deal to some, they just touch up now and then. I don't say this to discourage you, just so you know all the pros and cons.

If you really feel oak overload, you can reduce that by painting the trim only, leaving doors and cabinets wood. This works best with paneled doors. Hollow core doors do not look as well with white trim. Painting trim is much less arduous than painting cabinets. (see pics below)

Do a good kitchen purge and see if you need all the cabinets you have. You may not, especially if you have a pantry. Some cabinets could simply be removed. You could replace with shelves, or not. On the drastic side, you could take down most of the uppers, rework another cabinet for the microwave, tile up the wall and add shelves and an interesting vent hood. That would need to be carefully though out and the major expense would be the hood.

Consider a pretty roman shade or tie up shade over the window. The decor above the window is a little bit out of date. I like those myself, but have taken mine down. I do have a slightly vintage kitchen and I would maybe put an antique china plater or tray there. Others do signs, or leave blank.

One update you could consider that is popular is to update the counters. This is what I am presently doing. My island (3' x4') has a butcher block top that will stay and was not too expensive. I am adding a Kohler Whitehaven cast iron farmhouse sink which can be installed on standard cabinetry. I have a little less countertop than you. Sink plus quartz counters plus faucet plus labor is running about $4500. I've save up for over two years. I thought about painting the cabinets, but I really like my wood cabinets, and I do have white trim throughout the house. (pics of my kitchen in progress are in my idea book.
