It's a personal thing. There aren't any rules. I try to do a partial match. Say in the main room. Our kitchen , dining room and living room are all one. The faucets, cabinet handles , hinges and small things match. The lighting matches each other. The curtain rods actually match the trim. It doesn't all have to be exactly the same you could make yourself blind and crazy trying to do that. Too many subtle differences and shades not to mention choices. If you like the way it looks then you did it right.

No, it doesn't all need to match. If you are in a space where you can see multiple rooms then just take that into account and choose hardware that will suit the space(s). When you transition from one space to another without a view of other spaces, then just go with what suits that particular space.

It doesn't have to match. We love ORB so our light fixtures, lamps, ceiling fans, door hardware, etc. is all ORB, but that was our preference.
