i have similar to you for perimeters, for the island we did quarter sawn oak with absolute black granite top. warming the space up with wood doesnt seem the silliest idea, depending what your floor is.

Hi Trisha! Here is a kitchen I recently designed with white perimeter cabinets and an espresso island. I also recently specified a very similar combination for another client using a gray island. You will note that I also used two different countertop materials: a gray quartz on the perimeter and Calacatta marble on the island, which further enhances the contrast between the two areas.
