OBF June Yard Sale Exchange

We are going to have some fun at yard sales this month. Most of us do love a good yard sale and we all know the early bird gets the best buys. We will post 5 items that we are putting in our yard sale and someone will come to our yard sale and pick our 5 items. The sale will start early, lets say at 7:30 a.m. Your items can be anything you think someone would love to have. Plants, books, magazines, figurines, plant markers, CD's, and etc. I will post which morning the yard sale will happen at a later date although it will be on a Saturday. Signs ups will be until Monday June 6th and you must mail out to the one who chooses your yard sale items by June 20th. You can sign up now and post your yard sale items by the June 6th deadline.

Shirley, do you have any solid white irises? I'd like to try crossing a solid white iris with Anvil of Darkness and see what happens. If not, that's fine. I'm sure you'll find something I've just got to have...lol!!

I had Bingo, too, but shame on me for not checking in sooner. Congratulations, Connie and Amy.

103 degrees here as well. However, our humidity is not as bad as usual so it's fine for me - not so fine for the plants. They are looking for more and more water. Have a good weekend, everyone, and stay cool!

The aloe, Christmas cactus and succulent all made the trip fine even with all this heat. Thank you for the all the great seeds and vista gladiolus. The lady bug flag and flower lights will be so pretty on my porch and thank you for the candy, skittle candle and calendar planner! I am super excited with my box! Thank you again so much!!!

Some garden blooms from this evening:

    Erica, Beautiful blooms!

Shirley, Shirley, Shirley! Do you know what you've done to me? I'm a huge iris fanatic, and now you're asking me to choose...lol! I've looked at them all and I'm torn between Mohawk Brave and Puccini. Can I interest you in a third rhizome? Lol, ah, such choices to make! It's a difficult life, isn't it?

Erica, thank you for sharing those pics! They're beautiful!

And now I'm going to take a moment to rejoice and brag a little. A little over 7 years ago I was leafing through my seed catalogs and discovered an apple called Pixie Crunch. They are supposed to be even sweeter than Honey Crisp apples, so I decided to purchase one. Over the years I've made all sorts of mistakes with my fruit trees and learned a lot along the way. As a result, I now have 2 Pixie Crunch trees, and 2 Honey Crisp, which are needed to cross-pollinate one another to produce fruit. I've gone through deer, frost, years of no pollination, and anything else which might beset a fruit tree grower, and this year only one blossom showed up, so I gave up on this year. Well, lo and behold, I now have an apple growing and yes, it's on a Pixie Crunch apple tree! I'll finally get to taste this type of apple, if the deer or birds don't whisk it away from me. I'm hoping! Keep your fingers crossed for me, this is the closest I've come yet!

Dan-You have the same problem I have...the birds always devour my cherries and grapes, so frustrating. Yes we can trade as many iris as you like. I have all my bearded irises planted at our Church. They grow like crazy there, must love the soil better than mine, it's really sandy. Then on the other hand daylilies do not like it. They just sit there and don't multiply at all. I can trade any of the irises I listed the clumps are huge so just let me know which ones you can trade.

Connie-Thornbird is one of my favorite irises, it is a space age iris and I love the colors.

    Erica-Beautiful blooms, thanks for sharing.

    Jayeanne-Happy Belated Birthday (June 3rd)

    Annie-Happy Belated Birthday (June 24th)

Sorry I didn't post these at the beginning of the June swap. A little something headed your way.

Shirley, I can trade any of these...

    Anvil of Darkness

    Edith Wolford

    Edith Keeler

    Starship Enterprise

Mardi Gras Ribbons (this is one which showed up in my yard this year. I've searched for a name with the Iris Society to no avail, so I'm thinking it's a crossbreed from my yard.)

Let me know which ones you'd like to trade for, okay?

And if anyone else would like to trade some irises, let me know what you like and I'll let you know if I've got enough to trade after Shirley and I finish our trade.

Such beautiful pictures from everyone! Thanks all for sharing. :)

Anyone growing tomatoes? I have a problem with my red cherry size tomatoes.

The tomatoes look good but when I bite into them, they are bit dry/mushy. I don't know if the words dry and mushy can be used together but that's how it tastes to me :(

    Am I over watering?

Oh wow, Connie's box arrived today! Not only did it include a sprouting elephant ear bulb, succulents, and that climbing rose I wanted, she include 6 PEZ dispensers, literal "handful" of sweet-n-low (that was funny!), 2 shell-shaped candle holders (already in my ocean-themed bathroom), a headband, a box of crystal light (YUM!), and a windchime made of shells! I loved it Connie! Many thanks for it all!!!

Dan, I'm glad you could use so many of the items. Sounds like that box was meant for you

I collect windchimes, love ocean-related items like the sea shell candle motives, and the plants were right up my alley. When I saw what the rose looked like, I knew I had to have it. It was a great box for me! Thanks again!

I will be posting the OBF July swap later today when get off work. Hope everyone is enjoying their summer. I have enjoyed seeing all the beautiful flowers. We have some great gardeners here.

I just cut the last cucumber I grew last year. Just left it on the counter, planned to dry the seed, then I wanted to see how long it would last. There were two and the other one started spoiling so I decided it was time to remove seed from this one, they had sprouted inside so I planted them, and made this delightful cucumber salad.

Fyi: It doesn't taste as good as a freshly picked cucumber but I didn't have to can or refrigerate it, and I am eating a cucumber salad one year after harvest. YES!

Sorry I've been so absent lately everyone, I did send out your package Erica I believe it was Wednesday I will give u tracking as soon as I get home tonight, it may be late when i get off e but I'll get it to you. I think I'm doing something wrong with sending because I was sending boxes for $6.00-8.00 just this envelope was $13& change and it wasn't even theovernight. I'm not sure, maybe I'm doing something wrong. Bt never the less it's on the way. I hope everyone is doing good and enjoying their new treasures

    Amber

Oh Erica your picture post from last saturday....I just saw it, is the purple one a dahlia? If so do you know the name of it? I'm trying to learn as many of them as I can for next year I'm going to plant a whole dahlia and lilly garden, they have become my two favorite. Thanks, amber

Amber -- Thanks for letting me know you got my pack shipped. I was actually thinking I needed to message you since I hadn't received it yet. Glad I checked here first.

The purple dahlia, in my picture, is Frizzle Sizzle.

As far as shipping, I'd recommend ordering some flat rate bubble envelopes from the PO. They don't stock them in the post offices, so you do have to order them, but they are free to order. They cost $7 to ship and come with tracking, so often they are a better option than reg shipping. Flat Rate Bubble Envelope
