PLEASE HELP,
I am building a new home and have to choose the siding style, layout and colors within 2 weeks. The structure is up and we are ordering pre-painted fiber cement panels. We are in Seattle, so currently planning on a rain-screen type application. Windows are already ordered- dark bronze Anderson 100 series (basically black with hint of brown) and all soffits are wood panels. There are no trees around the house now, and we are surrounded by nice grey craftsman homes. I am open to hear any suggestions. The siding that is currently on the image is just a suggestion. House is 3 stories high, We want timeless look.

My recollection of houses in the Seattle environs are of soft grays, greens, browns, etc. with a splash of color in deep red, blue, etc. Since you already have the design in CAD you should be able to play with color combinations on the computer. After narrowing your choice down you can finish some larger pieces of the siding and have them on site to finalize.

Do you have a suggestion for a layout for the portion that is white?- something that won't be dated in 10 years and might make the structure look smaller?
I am the owner- so I don't have CAD..or other drafting software :(

Did you buy the plan from a plan service? If so, they might be able to give you the CAD file.

Hardie has a reglet system for installing the panels. I'd keep the number of joints to a minimum in order to avoid future maintenance issues. Try to keep within the geometry that's already there for the panel layout. Keeping door and window openings lined up with the panels makes sense. It's a balancing act. If you have a straight on elevation(s) you can test out different panel configurations.

Thanks everyone for the comments and suggestions. I ended up picking clear cedar with a Cabot stain (bark mulch) and we LOVE it. I apologize that I don't have a better picture, I will post some later. To keep the cost down we only applied cedar to the far left chunk of the house and to all the soffits. Yes, it was an up charge, but the sections we applied cedar to should be well protected and require little upkeep.
