Split level remodel

last modified: 10 years ago

I am slowly remodeling a split level and hope to complete the first phase in 6 weeks. First phase- install natural white or red oak throughout the upstairs and downstairs foyer, living room (pictured with fireplace) and dining room. I am not sure what floors to install in kitchen and partial basement/family room (stairs from kitchen lead to basement). I prefer tile or natural stone in kitchens. My kitchen will have new white shaker cabinets, stainless steel appliances/sink and maybe granite countertops and breakfast bar. My question should I use the same flooring in kitchen & basement? Should I match floor to countertops or vise versa?
