Flower Pics July 2016

This little guy is similar to the kind of cactus that grow in the hills around the valley I live in. I didn't take it from the wild in case you're wondering.

I don't know what it is other than it's a little Opuntia.

Very small and slow growing--and easy to overlook.

    Today's blooms:

Both Altman Lobivia species and I'm thinking hybrids--the first one is very old, this flower was very small about an inch. It dropped it's earlier buds when I move it into more light

This one is a first time bloom, my picture doesn't do it justice. The buds looked light pink, but it is very orange. It is absolutely beautiful. The flowers are only about 2.5"

    Small beauty :)

Ingrida--that plant looks perfect! I like the light green color.

Thank you Notolover ;) Light green color=keeping in balcony/no direct sunlight ;)

That plant has so much going for it and then to give you a beautiful flower as a bonus--I like it!

The pollinators will be happy this morning:

    E. Schick 'Charlemagne'

    E. Schick 'Flattycake'

Altman Rainbow Burst--I call her 'Friday Morning' (See--those big cactus growers are capable of doing something right and beautiful!) It's all just so generic to them because the labeling only says 'Rainbow Burst'--they're not interested in taking the next step in finding the best and selling named hybrids.

But there is a grower on Ebay now selling the pups, good for him/her! At least the buyers know exactly what they're getting. I always look for these at the BBS and now I have a table full :-) I have some with buds so I can't wait to see what I get. This is the best so far.

Very pretty, notolover! The label on my Rainbow Burst also said Echinobivia. I got it at Lowes at the end of March and have no sign of buds yet. Now I know what to look forward to!

    Royals Fan,

    You're right!

My labels also say Echinobivia--didn't have a pot in front of me and I only look for 'Rainbow Burst' when I'm on the hunt. :-) But I was trying to say that they don't worry about reproducing the most beautiful ones and then naming them, they get beautiful by hit or miss. So the flowers are always a surprise to us. I guess that's okay with me since I have all the named hybrids I want (until I see a new one :-)

Good luck with your plant, how big is it? I have had one for at least 3 years, it is beautiful in form, but it will drop buds at the drop of a hat. Keeping my fingers crossed for this year. And then I think the flower will be very plain as a last laugh.

One of the posters here had a lovely red/purple flowered one last year--I was jealous.

I just went outside () and measured it and it's 2.5 to 3 inches in diameter with a dozen or so pups of varying sizes. I'm glad you warned me about the buds dropping in case I ever get any :)

Most of the buds will stay put if you don't move it around, this particular plant is an outlier. I swear it does it on purpose :-)

Pygmaeocereus bieblii flower. Nocturnal and only lasted a single night. Smelled AMAZING

Happy Sunday--Whewy is it hot outside:

This is the same 'Rose Quartz' from earlier in the month blooming its little head off. I guess it's rewarding me for repotting it :-)

This is another Altman Lobivia--not sure if it is a species or hybrid.

Just when I thought my Yucca elephantipes was not going to bloom again this year, I found flowers! This is the first time it has bloomed.

I'll need a ladder for a better picture!

And I still wish I had investigated a little more and only planted one yucca here!

Beautiful--are you going to have to thin those yuccas? They must be very happy.

I think that's a possibility for the future. They've sure come a long way in the last 4 years! Looked pretty naked when I first started working on this area. A big, old Areca palm died from ganoderma and took away the shade.

Crenda, very nice. And quite a growth in 4 years.

It is so hot, but it's not stopping these guys:

    Echinopsis hybrid Schick 'Day Dream'

    Echinopsis hybrid Paramount 'Gold Crown'

Echinopsis hybrid 'McComb's Red' this is the 3rd year it bloomed and it always has crinkled petals--must be a genetic flaw, but I like it. Notice how the filaments are all over the place.

I got a Echinopsis going bloom haha. Think will be August or very last day of July though, I have to say everybody's plants looking amazing very nice pics hopefully August will have just as many

    E. Schick 'Crepe Crusader'

It looks like a Echinopsis subdenudata--my favorite Echinopsis species. Mine has buds, but it's just waiting for something....it usually blooms by now.

I love the scent so I always bring this one in when it's ready to bloom so that lovely smell greets me in the morning.

    Your flower is very pretty.

    Rina:

The flowers are lovely and addicting--I was collecting them, but they never bloomed until Norma that used to post here was gracious enough to share her secrets. I still have some flowering hold outs, though :-)

Hey notolover yes they are very nice smell ,wish I had more a blooming .I kinda thought that was the sp.even though it said E dominos on the tag

    Tanpexoctics--

I think they are the same, or close enough. Dominos is a cultivar of subdenudata-- supposedly it has woolier aeroles. I saw this on a thread in Cactiguide. Altman usually sells them as dominos.

So maybe I'm wrong (wouldn't be the first time), but the flowers are very similar :-)

Well we both agree nice flowers and smell haha ,good enough for me .believe I got it at Lowe's few years ago thanks for the link .I let my girl friend smell it earlier today ,and she thought smelled kinda like a cleaning product .I still caint figure it out .what does the smell remind you of notolover :)

Rina - just saw your comment. Yes, this is the Yucca that I lifted the skirt on. I updated that thread. Thanks for remembering!

@rina_Ontario,Canada Oh yeah, it appears as if it is. I didn't actually notice if it was just on the surface of the pots or the only medium they were using

tanpexoctics: I think mine smell a little citrusy and sweet. Some cleaning products do smell like that :-)

Amanda: I'm a big fan of that flower stalk, too!

Here's my last picture of July--where is summer going.

Another Altman Lobivia--very red, flower is about 2"

We usually have monthly 'blooms thread'... starts 1st of the month (check by searching by Month&year, e.g., May 2015 blooms... May 2016 blooms...)
