You need to adjust the doors and the filler strips were not installed properly there should be no white showing if the cabinets are all installed properly. This is gray kitchen from Ikea and there is no white showing.

I'd have to disagree. Everything is in fine and doors are adjusted, but there are slivers of white that show from certain angles simply by the way the cabinets are structured.

I have never had that happen if the boxes were built according to directions and the doors are adjusted I have installed hundreds of Ikea kitchens and never had this problem. Were the boxes put together exactly like the instructions or did someone think the y knew a better way this happens sometimes

We are having the same issue. Cupboards are square/level and doors are adjusted, but the white still peeks through. What did you end up doing?

You could put new edgebanding on the cabinets. Fastedge makes a high quality banding with a peel and stick adhesive in many colors. They also sell tools that make the job fairly easy. It would be best and simplest to do this before the cabinets are built, but should be doable after they are installed.

Heather, I still haven't tackled mine, but I've come to a similar conclusion as the comments since yours. I've been looking into melamine tape, but of the couple companies I'd found so far I was having trouble getting color samples, etc. A quick look at that fastcap site suggested looks promising so that may be the next one I try. Good luck - and please report back on your results if you try anything!

I've used Fastedge banding on a number of cabinets I built and it is a quality product. The adhesive is amazingly strong and the product is easy to work with. It's available in about a million colors. About all you really need to apply it is a pair of scissors, a utility knife, and a roller to press it on. They do offer some other tools that make the job a bit easier, but they are not required.

I did the FastEdge banding also. It was incredibly easy and did exactly what I needed it to. Very happy with the results!

Found this while searching the same topic albeit a little more specific. Our corner wall cabinet door does not cover the edges at all. Is tape our only option or did we do something wrong?

I think this is a very common “flaw” with the IKEA boxes... adding a full length side panel seems to be the only way to hide it, though it increases the cost a lot, and messes up the spacing...you can see in my picture that the left side is fine because of the side panel, but the right side will need the fastcap edging. So annoying!

According to my measurements, the IKEA fronts are about 1/8" narrower than the boxes, which leaves 1/16" gap on each side. I don't understand how it's possible to not have this problem.

You will always have a gap. Ikea cabinets are designed to have a gap between doors so they open. Generally the gaps fade into the shadows. If you have one of the darker door colors I can see how it would be offensive. New edge banding is the permanent solution.

We've recently installed our doors/drawers as we move along in our Ikea kitchen install and I agree that no amount of adjusting the doors/drawers can completely conceal the white boxes from showing through in certain places (more pronounced in the corner upper for sure, and on cabinets where the room's light hits the place where two doors/drawers meet in just the right way) and I was actually all set to buy the fast cap. But then I was reading the "House of Hepworth" blog about their Ikea kitchen reno where she mentioned using white electrical tape to conceal the brown back edge of a sektion shelf being used in a cabinet hack. That got me wondering. We only have a few places where the white box shows through our Bodbyn gray doors/drawers. I can't even say how was AMAZED I was by how closely it matched! Only time will tell how well it holds up, and there may come a point where I end up needing to reapply it (or just shelling out for the fast cap) but I added it in those few places that we're annoying me and the improvement--for under $5!--is nothing short of profound. These are the places where I've added it. It blends in so well that I'm not even sure it'll show up in my pics!

I would have to disagree with Patricia. If you really look between drawer fronts and doors, you will see the white. My team has built kitchens in IKEA showrooms and finished close to a thousand residential projects. The system is designed to have an 1/8” gap between working fronts. This also allows clearances for drawer top mounted pulls etc. The gap is there for real! We get around the issue by building our own IKEA compatible cabinet frames. We then select colored edge banding to match the fronts and panels. This way you can enjoy a black front and have the white and bright interiors. I will post images on our Instagram to show a sample project. In that particular job we are installing Lerhyttan @myboxbuilder

Just purchased our edging from fastcap and they do have custom colors to match the ikea doors...so don't be afraid to ask if you don't see the color you need. We still haven't installed the edging but I'll post some photos once we do.

Fastcap will also custom match if you send them a sample. We installed the matte blue when it was quite new and had to custom match, it was simple and totally worth it. I would recommend this edge banding to anyone doing a non-white IKEA kitchen to plan this as part of the design/cost. I've now done it in 2 kitchens and swear by it. I do it on the box fronts and the shelf fronts. Makes a huge difference in the finished look.

For those who have used Fast Edge on Ikea cabinets, do you apply the Fast Edge over the existing surface, or remove Ikea’s original white material first?
