Curb appeal help! Home exterior needs ideas...

Bought this plain Jane home for the great location, but I am at a loss on how to spice her up. She just doesn't match the Southern style of the street/city:
Shutters? (Note: awkward placement of window above door)
Enhance window trim? (Is this worth attempting DIY?)
Any thoughts appreciated!
