I have a similar problem: the electrician ran two circuits to the fan box, with two wall switches. When I purchased and installed the desired fan, I discovered that the light and fan motor cannot be wired separately, so I use one switch to turn it on and off, and the included remote to dim the light and control the fan motor speed and direction. I was told by a salesman at Lowes that I could buy a fan control which mounts inside the box with a Decora-style plate. This simply replaces the hand-held remote.
