You would want to have the end ones about 24" in from the ends. That leaves you with 7' divide that place three 4" pendants 24" apart. If my math is correct that should come out evenly spaced at 24" apart.

What sort of tasks do you do at your island? Preparation, cooking, office/school work, eating, entertaining, etc.? The type of light needed, amount of light, number of lights, and size of lights all depend on what you plan on doing in the area.

What is the width of the island?

For a general use island, we would recommend 2 medium/large lantern lights or 3-5 small pendant lights.
