Do you think painting the walls white under the chair rail would look good?

The draperies, though charming, seem a bit sweet compared to the other furnishings you have selected for the room. Here is your room in a lighter blue with white below the chair rail. I have added a framed painting and changed out your chandelier to fit the style of your home.

It may look nice actually pulling out that darker blue color from the curtain or go a dark gray. We often paint the walls of our homes a lighter gray with the dining room being darker. You can see the contrast between the entry and the dining room in the examples below. Good luck!

I'd go for the drama of the dark blue or for the cheer of the yellow.

I think the navy blue from the curtains would be stunning. My second choice would be the yellowish green of the caterpillar.

I really love the curtains, so I do want to use them. I’m trying to think of ways to use my furniture to make them work (wondering if perhaps I can switch out the chairs to another color?) Do you think a navy/dark blue would go with the hallway color though? I initially was thinking either a kelly green or navy blue, but wasn’t sure it would look right. I wish the previous owners had chosen a different color for the hallway. I think they were going for grey, but it definitely looks bluish purplish to me. It’s a two-story foyer, so it would cost $$ to get someone to paint it all.
