What exactly are you stuck about? Is there wall color going to stay or go? I like the brown, but it may be too flat for the look of the crystal. You might consider changing out that light fixture to something more contemporary. Also, the cat tower is not doing the overall impression any favors. The windows look a little plain. Maybe you could update the window treatments to something with a bit more contrast against the brown. There may be a bit to much brown in this room to let a black Swarovski crystal fireplace really shine. And I say this a person who would paint every room brown if I could.

Can you remove the fan? It takes away from the fireplace, I think.

Maybe pick up the blue from the pillows and the reflection in the mirror and paint the fireplace wall a softer shade of the same blue.

if you want that fireplace to stand out you got to make it 'pop'! I agree with Chriss Allan; I would definitely install a stone-type tile to give the wall a more three-dimensional feel. I'm not a big draperies fan but I could see how a couple of panels would warm the room up too. I'm a bit fan of mixing colours prints and textures and I think that would work really well here as your current colours, fabrics and layout are quite simple-just needs a little tweaking! Good luck!

Glass tile on the fireplace looks incredible. Check out our "Fireplace Idea book" to see more, but below are just a couple examples. The iridescence of the glass dances with the flame turning the fireplace not only into a mesmerizing statement piece, but ultimately a piece of art. We were excited to see Smokey Robinson on American Idol last week with a fireplace totally clad in our dimensional tile, it looked amazing!

Take a cue from the manufacturer/sales ads for the FP. It is almost always surrounded by black or dark gray tile. The design is meant to emphasize linearity, but yours is boxed in by the windows and the TV, so it isn't the focal point you envisioned. Can the TV be moved to the opposite wall? Then float the two sofas facing each other and the two chairs either flanking the FP (if they are stationary) or the TV (if they swivel.) Consider painting the trim to match the wall paint, but in a satin finish. The white all around it is pulling the eye away from the FP To make it the center of your design I would continue the tile you have around it all the way up and down the wall and maybe on the sides that bump out. If not that, then paint that wall the darkest color of the tiles you've already installed. Drapes with a silvery pattern would draw more attention to it as well and would cover up the light slippage between the shades and the window frames. If you can't move the TV, think of putting the mirror opposite the FP to reflect your focal point. I would be tempted to hang the mirror low and horizontal (same level as the FP) to get the full effect doubled without the TV in the picture. Sounds weird, but don't rule it out. Right now your mirror is not reflecting anything beautiful or interesting.

If you'd like your fireplace to 'pop', you should find a new place for your TV. They are both fighting for attention.
And I agree with Granite Grannies... as much as I like brown, there's just too much of a good thing here.
So you could just simply paint the fireplace/TV part of the wall in a lighter colour (a grey that's in the chair fabric?).

I'm not a fan of TV's over fireplaces. Both are fighting for attention. Without seeing the rest of the room it's difficult to see if there's another option for your furniture/TV arrangement, but I guess you like it just the way it is anyway.

Stainless steel mantle with coordinating glass tile like Crissie Alllen stated. Replace fan with stainless one too! Very nice room though. I'm sure ur kitties love the tower and looking out the window! Keep it until you entertain and then just put it in the bedroom. Don't listen to the uptight comments..

the room color actually blends the TV into the room - I wouldn't move it - Also agree about removing ceiling fan - there are hundreds of great hanging lights which would invigorate your room as well!!!

I would paint the wall with the fireplace a lighter color. The contrast of a lighter paint color and the dark fireplace surround would make it stand out as a focal point.

We have a similar fireplace , we have a fairly neutral beige type of colour the rest of the room and then we just painted the fireplace projection a deep orange , its stunning and simple . Its an economical way to create drama and if you dont like the colour its easy to change

Lovely room. I think with a couple of tweaks, you can make this work better, so that the fireplace stands out as more of an accent.

Currently it looks a bit as if there are two rectangles, one over the over, just because of the shape of the fireplace and TV, and both are outlined in black. Add the two vertical rectangles on either side (the windows), and it looks a bit angular.

My suggestions would be to soften up the windows with some simple draperies (remove the items infront of them if you can find other places to put them). Not sure if your options for draperies are limited due to the heat of the fireplace, but I think you can soften up this look a bit just by replacing (or adding to) the blinds.

You can divide the TV and fireplace visually by adding some type of mantle - again, I'm not sure how hot your fireplace gets (whether you need to keep space/divider between the TV and heat source). You could then add a few decorative items onto the mantle, although your TV is quite wide so may not allow for much room to place them. Even a nice vase, etc. would give some visual interest though, and break up the lines.

You could expand the tiles around the fireplace to make a larger focal impact. I think the white trim underneath, then wall, the fireplace, then wall, then TV, is what is causing this to look a little off. You could do the hearth idea and extend the tiles to fill in more of the wall, or add mantle, or both, and I think this would help to balance the wall. Currently the TV appears to be taller than your fireplace. This is also a lovely sitting area so you want the focus to be more on the fireplace than the TV.

You could also alter the paint on the wall portion that juts out holding the TV and fireplace. This would highlight the fireplace and create more of an accent wall. The tile would likely stand out more also.

Wow! Thank you everyone for your quick replies! I'll go over all of these this evening with my husband. There's a lot of really great advice here. I am not nuts over the new window coverings we purchased, and have definitely considered adding some type of drapery to the windows. I'm attaching a few more pictures, so that you get a better feel for the room. We do have a beautiful shade of blue (Benjamin Moore's Providence Blue) just off this room, and the rest is "Modern Grey", which is actually more of a taupe color.

You seem to have an open concept in your rooms, is that correct? So why "divide" them off with different paint colors? I suggest you paint the rooms in one color with perhaps an individual accent wall color, here and there....

The dark fireplace seems to fade out in the dark room, plus the TV above doesn't like to share any attention. Maybe a different, lighter color and/or texture on that section of the wall to help it stand out? I'd bring the white from the patterned chairs (love those!) into the room more to help fight the dark in general, but I think white on that wall contrasting with the black fireplace would really show it off. Yes think you need to introduce cream linen panels to the windows, one pair per window, after getting rid of the cat fixture from that room, sorry, but it really is a distraction. The white at the windows will help the fireplace pop.

I would suggest that you use texture to balance the design of the room. You can consider using concrete or greige washed wood panels that would also light up the room. Also note that today you can find porcelain or ceramic tile that looks like real wood. Please take a look at the images below...

Contrasting glitter tiles (think I'm seeing a variation above) would certainly make a statement, as would a rubbed metallic finish, which can be accomplished with paint, tile,- or actual metal, for some addtional options.

If you could put the TV on the wall that has the mirror, put the sofa to where the chairs now are. Chair(s) either side of the TV, one in the corner near the window angled towards the sofas and the other one angled towards the fireplace. Not sure if there's enough space for this furniture arrangement though....

I was also thinking you can just paint the fireplace wall "simplicity is the best form of sophistication", it will make the crystals stand out, here are some sample colors to match your decor...

I'm not sure people are getting the gist of what the point of a Swarovski FP is. The crystals are to be emphasized, not overpowered with stone or too much contrast in the surroundings IMO.

COLES: I love your colors!! Was it scary painting the darker grey color? It came out great..I might steal your colors! (I have BM wedgewood grey (close to the Providence blue) that I am trying to coordinate colors with)

If you could carry the existing crystal tiles up and around the fireplace that would be fantastic looking, otherwise I'd choose a couple of shades lighter of your existing wall color to paint the fireplace wall. I also like the idea of some fabric panels to soften the edges of the room.

Here are a couple ? one dark gray to match the tile and the other blue/green for a pop of color...

Roman shades instead of the blinds, use a fabric with the wall colours, will add the visual weight needed and draw attention to the fireplace. The white of the trim is a bit stark, so would make sure there was a bit of white in the fabric but not white based. Will find some examples for you.

Take the FP tile all the way up to the ceiling and place the TV someplace else. Window need fabric panels, maybe on the outer sides of the window. It will soften the look

I was in their showroom yesterday browsing & they have this product with veining & leather texture on the wall with a gas fireplace in the centre like yours. It made you want to reach out & touch it. Of course i had to. The color would match your wall color perfectly

Thank you everyone for your opinions! There are some really great ones here, ones that we'll apply for sure. Although I declined uploading this picture through Facebook, Houzz did it anyway and wow are there ever a lot of cruel people out there! The remarks are much kinder on this website, so thank you for that! I will definitely add curtains (this is a brand new home, we've had only for just over a month) so we did the best we could in very little time. Now it's time to stand back, see what we did, and try to figure out how to improve this room. The benches under the windows is a great idea, as is curtains. We're going to get rid of the ceiling fan, and do something similar to what NEMM suggested for the fireplace wall. Unfortunately, the TV has to stay there but my husband will recess it into the wall. Again, thanks for all of your great suggestions!

I like your room already. I don't mind the TV, or the way the fireplace already looks. There are many out there with some old brick fireplaces that would love to have your more modern design. I would enjoy your room. It's super nice.

i agree that the tv and fireplace on the same wall don't work great as a look but likely work well as a destination...small square glass grey tiles covering that whole wall would tie everything in. you could try a few different shades, maybe a greenish gray just don't try to vary them...keep it solid....you could texturize that wall to tie in the elements of the tv and fireplace...a wallpaper with a faint pattern mimicking the giometric in the tiles

the WHITE baseboard and window frames are stark and would look better in a more muted tone, or even matching the tv frame. I like flowy transparent white curtains with this room and inconspicuous rods ...i didn't see the posts about tiling that wall till after I posted mine...look at small square GLASS tiles in many many shades of grey that can match smething in the fireplace frame

You have a beautiful home and I think your fireplace wall is fine. The only thing I would do is lighten the fireplace wall, matching the baseboard to the wall. Then, a softer window treatment perhaps right over the shades - maybe one tied back panel on each side. Keep the cat tree. Cats are family, too. Whatever you decide will be beautiful. Good luck.

I would either tile the entire wall in beige stacked stone or a lime stone tile - or I would lose the tile around the unit entirerly and use venician plaster in the same blue as the pillows to make the wall pop

good choices coldsmomii - just the things you mentioned will add a wonderful finish to what you have done. I like keeping it simple, but until someone mentioned it, using a wallpaper with a faint pattern, matching the FP, I really like that idea! So simple and it would make that wall pop, but suptle...

also, a simple area rug, keeping 12 inches off each wall, with subtle shades from your accent chairs and baseboard would warm up the room as well. It is already beautiful and these simple things would 'finish' the 'welcome'...
