Rope Light Emergency!

I am putting out my christmas decorations (I start around halloween, try to be done by thanksgiving) and I have several strings of multi-colored rope light. One string has 2 sections out, with the rest working. There are no sharp bends or burnt bulbs in the rope light. The other 3 strings just don't work at all. I tried 2 different power cords, no difference. One of the strings that is not working does appear to have a burnt section in it (as I remember, old rope light) but the rest still worked. I know everyone is going to say "why don't you buy new rope light?". The reason I am not buying any new rope light because now all you can get is the LED (which, I just like the multi-color better when not LED) and it wouldn't match the rest of my decor, plus it is very expensive. I am willing to try almost anything (cutting. re-wiring, etc.) I just thought I might be able to get some specific advice on the issue. I can post pictures if necessary.
