Why not just have an array of photos?

I would place a bench in front of fireplace, and a grouping of photos on both sides. But do not match the shapes of the photos. You need some asymetry in the room

I like the idea of incorporating some floating shelves. Also the bench idea is something I would never have thought of but I like it! I agree it's a lot of drywall but built in's were not in our budget. I think a mix of floating shelves and 1 or 2 pictures on either side should fill the space nicely. Thanks for the input and keep it coming!!!!

Right on! Floating shelves win my vote. You know why? You look at the photo and the fireplace dominates. You need a balance with the shelves :)!

For the floating shelves...would you guys recommend an espresso or white finish?

And how many do you recommend and placement. I want to try to get away from the symmetrical look currently happening but don't know how.
