You can try a quartz countertop, which are very sturdy and easy to maintain. They're available in many solid colors. I've installed quartz in my kitchen and I love its clean yet warm look.

If you use a solid color for the herringbone backsplash, your counter could have movement. It does not have to be solid.

What tile are you using ? IMO you choose the backsplash last th same as wall color . The big ticket item is the counter choose what you love there and then maybe your choice for backsplash will change

Thanks Patricia. I have been told that. I do have some back ups, but loving the herringbone. I appreciate your input. I think that is exactly what is going to happen.

If you're stuck on quartzite or granite, you're going to have a long search. If you are open to quartz, then there are lots of solid or nearly solid options in grays, whites, and darker -- you'll need to get a bunch of samples together with your backsplash choice, as not all undertones will play well together. Once you see the options, you'll have a pretty good idea of whether you have a great combination or need to compromise (on backsplash or on counter price)...

Of course, in my head I'm picturing a carera herringbone -- if in fact it's just the pattern that you love, then the world is your oyster, as any solid-color elongated tile can be laid in a pattern, and it can still be quiet enough for a noisy stone, as long as you use matching rather than contrasting grout.
