Better lighting, add some under cabinet lights a couple of pendants over the island, the black appliances don’t help either

You have a great kitchen!

The first thing I would do is paint the paintry door and trim (trim around the pantry door), and paint the wall color.

Go with a lighter wall paint color. As time goes by consider changing backsplash (and maybe countertop) out for lighter colors. When the fridge and dishwasher die, replace with stainless. You could consider painting the island.

Or, you can keep the counter and backsplash if you like them and save up to have the all the cabinets professionally painted.

I like stained cabinets, but am not personally fond of dark backsplash and counters - though I do see the dramatic appeal to some - just not my style and I have trouble visually working against a black background.

The good news is that you have a pretty, functioning kitchen. You can save up a little each month till you have what you need to make which ever changes appeal to you.

Lighter backsplash:

I agree with the lights under the cabinets. If you want to do a little more, I would replace the backsplash with a light color.

I would add more lights as well- change the paint to a lighter color and paint the pantry door as well.

Thank You all,I am trying to do all you have mentioned.I cant even pick a bar stool since the kitchen clashes with my taste .I cant pick anything that goes with my kitchen. How about painting the cabinets ?How much do you think that would cost?

Would it be good,or would it warp and peel ?I cook a lot and my kitchen is heavily used .

You might try painting the walls a different color and hanging out the hardware. The pictures here are of our designs and might inspire you.

The cabinets look nice; if they are in good shape, I would leave them alone. At least for now. You might find that after painting and adding some lighting, and maybe changing the backsplash, you will have the result you are looking for. If it still doesn't feel right, you can always paint them down the road.

I agree - the cabinets look fine. And changing the wall color and painting the pantry door will go a long way toward changing the look and staying within your budget. Also, a small lamp on the counter by the desk would add light and warmth. How about barstools like this?

Finish with a cute new rug and window treatments!!
