Whichever way you go I'd paint the front door, and not to match the roof but it's own color. If you go with the black roof then paint the front door ie red, orange, yellow. If you stay with the grey ie purple, turquoise, navy, at least imo.

I think you'd have to add some balance with a black roof, or it would be the main focal point of the house. Maybe a black door, larger black house numbers and light fixtures. I've seen black roofs where you notice nothing but the roof.

Would you consider more of a charcoal gray instead of black? That might be a nice compromise, if you are concerned about the black overwhelming the house. We are doing our roof this year and have settled on a medium charcoal. Our home is a pale sage green. The other thing that helps is driving around and see roof and paint combos on other houses. I actually like the black and as chloebud mentioned, bring some black down to the house with numbers, door, etc. Door could be black or a bright color that you like. Good luck!

I think the black roof is too attention stealing. Go for a lighter roof, and definitely paint your door. A light roof, white trim, and a really bold colored door would look great on your home.

The black is too dark. I think it would be a mistake to go that dark. I can see going darker, but not that dark.

I would leave the roof color and paint all trim a dark chocolate brown color such as Benjamin Moore Wenge AF-180 and paint front door an exciting color, if you are bold you could go with Benjamin Moore's Color of the year for 2017 Shadow 2117-30 if you just added a couple of colors you would get the visual interest and curb appeal I think you are looking for.

Black looks heavy & foreboding. It will also attract heat in the hot environment {I see palm trees}.

Next up, I will be staining the wooden retaining wall in the front. These pics do not do the color of the shingles justice, there are some variations that look great in person. I am glad I listened to the Houzz community!!!! Time to consider painting the door and maybe some additional accent colors.

That looks great, mark617, a big improvement. I've seen timberline weathered wood color and loved it, but it wasn't right for my house color. Is that the brand you used?

Thanks, dowagercountess!!! CertainTeed was the manufacturer...the colors in the pics I posted do not show the variations, and the roof is a bit darker than what appears in these photos. I will try to get some better photos with my "Real" camera and post. I am very happy with the choice.

I would personally steer clear of the black. Maybe a slightly darker shade than the house color but not black. It might draw too much heat.

I personally love black but it's usually goes well with the modern contemporary homes, I don't think that's the style of the house...

casec, I am trying to tack down the colors now, my apologies...have not been on the site for a few weeks. The name shows Deer Run, but I also have the actual custom mix and I don't know if Deer Run was the base with these changes or not, from Sherwin...
