My daughter suggests a pop of the teal color from the comforter on the walls. I would paint the ceiling. Have fun!

IMO you need to ask your daughter what she would like for color, I usually tone the choices down but it depends on what she likes. I have a granddaughter that was into goth for a while and would have loved the black ceiling

For starters, I would paint the ceiling a bright white to highlight the the 10' ceiling height. This will automatically brighten up the room.

Next, you can add an accent wall behind the bed, maybe your daughter's favorite color. The other walls can be painted a neutral color or a nice pastel (depending on the accent wall color).

Flooring: What is under the carpeting? Tile? Hardwood flooring? A plywood subfloor? If the existing floor is something you can work with, then I would remove the carpet and get a nice area rug. If, for whatever reason, you're not able to remove the carpeting, you can always place an area rug over the carpeting. Since your carpet is a neutral color, you are not limited to the color or print of the area rug.

I would accent the walls with decor that relates to your daughter's style and taste. If you are going to add posters, i would recommend framing the posters to give the room more stylish look. The frame doesn't have to be elaborate, you can get inexpensive frames from your local rats & crafts store. I would recommend a white frame to match the furniture.

Lastly, add a few floating shelves to display your daughters stuffed animals, dolls, trophies, etc.

Thank you. You have given me lots to think about, but i'm not sure i can tackle the ceiling and my husband doesn't want me to hire anyone.

The dark ceiling is really depressing, and is too old looking - not age appropriate. Here is a rough recolouring of the room using colors from the bed spread. Big bold paintings that you could do with your daughter would be fun also!

How about a painting party with your daughter and her friends. They might actually come up with something really creative and the most it will cost you is a pizza pie and paint! Just a thought...

I agree with the white/off-white walls and leaving the ceiling. Install floor to ceiling curtain panels that complement the bedding. I would place the bookshelf next to the bed and find a bigger lamp for the nightstand.
