OBF April " Pass-along Plant swap"

last modified: 9 years ago

Pass-along plants are shared and passed down through generations. Sharing plants is a wonderful tradition. For this months swap we will be sending our partner three pass-along plants. These should be plants that you grow that come back every year. Some favorite pass-alongs include unusual daffodils, crinum lilies, peonies, spider lilies, lycoris, cannas, hibiscus, daylilies, irises, hedychiums, camellias, and gardenias but there are many more.

We are also going to include a garden item of your choice. This can be any item of your choosing. Something that you think your partner would enjoy. It can be something to decorate the garden or even something to use in the garden. Let's be creative.

I will match up the partners close to another by State. Please sign up with your name and the abbreviation of your State.( Amybabyboy3-GA)

Sign ups will be thru April 9th and please send out by April 25th. Thank you and hope you will join in for this swap!

Our Blooming Friends Swap Group [0BF] was created to have a reliable, fair and safe haven to swap and trade between group members. If you care to join us, we would love to have you.

Please be a successful member of GardenWeb/HOUZZ and have completed a trade with two or three of our members. Membership requests should be sent to Shirley (Brittneysgran).

Please take a moment to read our rules and then, Have fun!

1. Send your swap by posted deadline for each swap.

2. No bickering. This is meant to be fun for everyone.

3. Send things that you yourself would want to receive.

4. Always include a Delivery Confirmation number and post it when you send your package.

Good evening. I have been in touch with Susan about my delay in getting plants dug up. Part of it is that in April, most of the plants in Ohio are still not showing much of their little faces. I also had a health scare this past week and wasn't much into getting out into the garden. I was having some side issues and they found an ovarian cyst. Since I am 60 years old, it could be trouble. I had a couple blood tests for cancer and as you all know, it isn't a quick thing to get the blood test done and read and the wait was hard. I heard word today that all is fine. Phew. I was a bit nervous to say the least. You just don't know what life is going to throw your way. I do have a follow up appointment and I will be curious to see what they do about it such as watch it, remove it, or what.

Tomorrow I head to Dayton to watch my daughter, her husband, and my son compete in a weight lifting competition. Too bad I couldn't just take my plants to Susan since she lives somewhere in Dayton. LOL Anyway, my hope is to get out in the garden on Sunday and mail my package Monday.

I will keep you posted as to my mailing. Have a good weekend all. Margo

Margo, I am so happy that you received good results. Hope you have a wonderful weekend with your family. I am still working on my package also but it will be in the mail by the deadline. The packing and moving really wore me out!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Take care, Amy

I read the Pass-along Plants book that I checked out of the library . Now I definitely need to think about swapping for some plants that you can't buy in nurseries. I love it when people on Houzz share their special plants.

    Beautiful iris, Shirley!

Ok, so just went out to survey my gardens and my package to Susan might be a couple days late. I should have realized that here in Northwest Ohio, things don't come up as early as in other areas. I have plant ideas to send but they are still pretty little and I don't want to kill my plant trying to separate it. I have a lot of things that haven't even started coming up yet. We are still experiencing temps in the 30's at night and the plants know it's too early. I will be in contact with Susan as soon as I post this. I should be able to get it done on Wednesday. Margo

May be a day late mailing, it rained all night and has rained all day today. Was hoping to get in the mail tomorrow but that is not going to happen. I had my neighbor make the cutest cake (cupcake) for my Son and Daughter-In- Laws baby shower yesterday. Ketara loves Monkeys and my Neighbor can make any cake imaginable.

All the guests did a thumb print for the leaves and signed like a guest book

on this one. Wish they had waited until all the guests did it to take the picture.

Tracking # 9405803699300439891507....delivery should be on Friday.

Margo, so happy the lab work results came back A-OK.....sigh of relief!!!

Thanks for the nice comments. I was pretty freaked out. I had a similar scare a year or so ago when they found nodules in a chest xray and they turned out to be nothing. The big guy above is sure looking after me.

Shirley, cute cake. That is one talented neighbor.

I am going to dig up tomorrow or Friday, I promise. I will post as soon as I get the deed done.

Weather is perfect here. Even going to have record temps in the 80's tomorrow.

    Margo

Susan, we were posting at the same time. LOL Thanks for letting me know my package will arrive tomorrow. Since I will be planting, I might as well make every effort to get your package dug up and sent. I will let you know. Margo

Susan, Your stars are pretty and the ones that you sent me last year grew so pretty this year!

My son fussed at me for not letting him draw the bingo words for the past two days. He told me I was cheating! Okay so these words are courtesy of my 16 year old sweetie Garrett: sweet peas and peas

Hi Susan, I agree with your weather as being a wonderful day here in Ohio. I actually turned on the air conditioning. I received your box and all is planted and happy. I let my note out in the garage so hoping I can remember the contents correctly.

A white Iris which is now in Olivia's memory garden.

Lung wort and fern. I love fern and don't have any yet,

A black eyed susan bush which I put in a big pot and will transplant as it gets bigger.

Organic gummy bears and a box of chocolates.

Susan also tossed in some umbrella confetti which made me laugh and she made a ball jar lid marker on a wire for each.

Thank you Susan and I hope I didn't forget anything. We are due a nice rain tomorrow and on Friday I am going to dig up and mail my plants to you. I know what I am going to send. I would have done it today but am afraid if I mail it tomorrow, it might not make it by Saturday and it will sit at the post office all day Sunday. I want my choices to survive.
