Exterior Paint color help

This is just a small picture of the backside of our second home on a lake. The front is larger with big picture windows with white trim. We are having the house painted soon and would appreciate any advice on paint color. Should I go a little darker grey. What we do like is a lighter color which shows nicely from the lake among all the trees and other houses. Any suggestions specifically the color number would really help. Thanks so much

I like the current gray. If you wanted to make it just a bit darker I think that would be fine. It would highlight the windows a bit more. One suggestion is that when you take the shutters down to paint the house don't put them back. They are entirely too small for the windows.

Thank you for your comment. I agree a little darker grey. We are having some additional landscaping planted in front. If we take the shutters down won't that even look more bare? Should we find a little larger shutters? Any other ideas. Currently it looks like a mini- house when you drive up, but looks large from the lake side. Also looks plain in the dead of winter.

Shutters should be wide enough to cover the windows. With triple windows if you put up a shutter the proper size to cover the windows it would look out of scale. An inexpensive idea would be to put larger white trim around the windows to give them more mass. Adding landscaping would also help finish the look. I know your deck isn't high enough to require a railing but you could add one or maybe even a bench type seat around the entire perimeter.

Thank you. That makes sense and would look nice. It is always so hard to find a carpenter to come out and do a small job. We have another job they could work on inside too but it seems like all carpenters only want large remodeling jobs.

Also in the summer the purple hydrangea, hostas and annuals add to the front . We are adding more bushes to the right side and a small coral berry tree to the left of the pic. I think thicker trim might be the best.

I agree that wider trim is better than shutters that are too small. Since you're by the water, why not go with a gray with a bit of blue in it such as Sherwin Williams Whirlpool 9135

Then pick a lovely, bright color for your front door.
