Best thing to do is to get a sample door in the color you want. It will cost but you will see a truer representation of the color. I order a custom color and it came out different because by the time all the chemicals like conversion varnish was added, the color has changed. I order sample doors in all except the painted color. That was my laziness and I deeply regret it. I now have to live with the color.

Just did a quick search for P&L cabinets. It's so misleading when you see a small swatch and think it's light, medium or dark and then you view it on a larger scale like a cabinet door. So, what beachem is recommending is a great idea.

Just look at this cabinet that says it's P&L "Dependable" paint color.

**NOW LOOK AT THE SWATCH.**

Our kitchen walls are Silver Strand. Our ("white") cabinets are Fleur de Sel (SW7666), which is off-white in a slight grey direction, and we have Willow Tree (SW 7741) as an accent color.

I know the Sherwin Williams paint mixing computer has color formulas for other brands in their system (Benjamin Moore, Home Depot/Behr, Lowes/Valspar), so they don't have to try to color match with their sensor if you bring in another brand's paint chip... maybe Pratt & Lambert has the same, and can mix SW colors?

I agree on getting a sample. I think the white in your granite seems pretty white and cool. I would want to see a sample of the white with the counter. There are several grays in your granite, but again, a sample will help a lot!

Unfortunately, I don't think getting a sample will be possible. My builder wants the colors asap and I think the granite is already at the fabricator. Not happy about it, but oh well.

So, given that I'm having to just pick a color, which white would you go with- Pratt and Lambert's Seed Pearl or Designer White?

Oh, and I've pretty much settled on Gig's Grey for the island.

cabinets are too big of a deal, it's a big surface in your home, a very expensive one at that, which you're supposed to like..tell him you understand his position and you'll try to make your choice fast, but it won't be asap.

I know this asap thing ..and I'm very happy about not going with several "asaps"

I think our builder is too, in the end of the day, because his portfolio will look better.

I also tried to compare between Seed Pearl and Designer White..which is really hard through the monitor and is pretty much useless-Decorator White looks more bright white, maybe?..

but just something that popped out to me so to say, in your inspiration pics..they're all very sleek, modern or contemporary looking kitchens. is it the style you go for? If yes-I feel you're freer with colors, since the sleekness of other elements and simplicity of details allows you that.

What's the style? what the doors will be? what the flooring will be?

Laminate that's often used in modern kitchens is more pure of a color than painted wood..I'm not great in explaining why, but that's what makes it easier to use sometimes even two or three laminates together, and add something natural and textured like stained wood..is it something that you had in mind?

Another question-are you sure you want white? Because I hear from you some hesitation..or I may be wrong.

If you're willing to share some pics, whether of your plan, or materials that you've chosen already, or the room in question-that would help. There are common answers, but they probably will prove more specific and useful when the question gives more specifics as well. Every home is different, every space is different..every person who asks is different too.

So. I don't want to hijack this thread..if you're comfortable sharing more details and visuals on Dilemma's side(which I frankly find too big and hectic), I'll go there and look and try to think some more..

I bet other posters will find it helpful too. There were some nice answers there, but I looked very fast through them.

Thank you so much for taking time for my question. My kitchen is traditional when built in 2002. Maple wood and glazed cabinets, raised panels, moulding but it doesn't look very typical traditional. So far we have added a few new cabinets to extend the island, took part of moulding off to update them need to remove the top ones. Corner appliance garage is gone. The island will have new cabinets no knobs look all around. It's a transitional kitchen concept. My dream kitchen was white. Now looking at all the pictures trends, I'm hesitant to again get stuck with a look. I love contemporary look sleek and clean. I want to implement as much as possible that look in what I'm able to change for now. The floors are red oak yellowed will be refinished and stained either gray or ebony? Adjacent to it is family room which also will have new wood floors. Shall I keep stain color same throughout the house? I still like white cabinets( husband loves them) but want to use dark gray as lower cabinet color, island I don't know either gray? And then the big wall of cabinets with fridge,etc. what that be white or gray? Countertops will be pure white and clamshell. I like these colors, where not sure! I'll post my kitchen pics soon!
