Iron scrolled doors...refinsh

We bought a home that has scrolled heavy metal double doors and a scrolled arch over the door, The scrolling has started to pit and rust. The door frame is very discolored. How do I refinish the door and scroll work. Besides the weight, they look close to impossible to remove to work on.

Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Is there space between the iron and the glass to slide paper? Then you could paper and tape around the glass, mask the hinges, protect the floor, and spray with primer and then a new paint. Remove the doorknobs before you paint. Maybe a textured (hammered) finish would hide imperfections.

Before you prime you can wire brush to remove any rust. Then steel wool the rest and wipe down to clean off any surface dirt.

Several light coats not a heavy one to avoid runs. I wouldn't pick glossy black it would look heavy. Charcoal hammered, or bronze hammered?

Ah, The pictures finally filled in for me. For sure, you have to change the rug to get the look you're going for. What if your roommates chairs had a cool fabric a poster and the wood was painted?

for the iron doors, they probably need to be powder coated. that is the only way these should be painted. call a company who specializes in wrought iron painting and manufacturing and they can sand blast the old finish and put on a new coat. they will come out, remove them and take them to their shop. they will remove all of the chipping paint and rust and repaint.

I've had it done to my wrought iron detail. however, it isn't cheap.

I've tried sanding them and painting them myself, but it doesn't last. And for you to work on those yourself would be near impossible. Those doors are heavy duty expensive pieces of art. spring for the cost of a pro powder coat. bonus is, you can pick your colors. doing a nice patina look would look really nice

Beth, I know you're right. Didn't really know where to look and I was hoping for an easier and less expensive solution. Thank you for help and complimentary words about the doors. The color chart is inspiring.
