You have two different type counter tops??

First thing I see is the tiny valances... very dated and you might want to replace them with relaxed roman shades or traditional Roman shades.

The wall color(s) in the kitchen and maybe that adjacent is a dining area? The colors are too yellow/creamy and in the adjacent room orange leaning. You have lovely large baseboards/trim stark white it appears. I would lean toward a more neutral tone yet still light on the walls.

Without knowing your furniture, style wishes, desires and so on to keep it or restore or other... hard to offer ideas other than the paint is not conducive nor is the hall outside the kitchen. It certainly looks far more new than 100 years old in the photos so maybe it has been completely renovated?

Relaxed Roman Shade

Porter has some great ideas. If it is in the budget I would paint the cabinets white too and change out the hardware (pulls and knobs) with some updated and fun ones (could spend forever looking at these). I would also change the two wall sconces which are a little out dated with some more modern ones. You can get these at home depot pretty cheap.

Thanks everyone. Our house is super traditional (lots of antiques, built ins, huge moulding, etc) but the kitchen was redone in a more modern style before we purchased. I was curious about decor items that would add some traditional charm, but I'm not certain about how to go about it. House was freshly painted by previous owner so we won't be painting soon. Our budget is minimal (think vintage thrift items), so no new window treatments soon). I could possibly convince dh to purchase a new, more traditional hanging fixture above the sink and pulls for he cabinets. Countertops are corion with green inlay. Surfaces around heat sources are granite.tia!
