I wonder if the eaves/ soffit parts are changeable/ paintable? Seems black in the 'body' of the house should be softened... if softened, I could see 'wall planters' in 1 or more places - where the 'cross trim' is... trailing over the meter too!

What if you did grey, white, and green tones? Change the really dark color to a dark/medium grey that way it would tone it down? Keep the current trim white, and paint the majority of the house a sage/grey green? It all depends on how much you want the colors to blend. If you want the colors to blend more, like the home we did below then you might want to try something different.

I love the black trim. I don't like the taupey shade that's with it. a white or off white or even a light gray would work better. and I also think landscaping would go a looonnnggg way into making this house look dynamite. I'd spend the money on the yard before I touched the paint. You could always soften the porch area by bringing in some natural stained cedar or redwood posts for some warmth. looks so good w/the black. A wood color garage door would work as well. but that taupe/putty color would have to go.

I also have a dislike for the present state of the front yard area. I do plan to landscape and have a plan. The meter would be hidden behind a bush and I will plant a variety of grasses to hide the hydro meter box and also to provide privacy along with other plants.

another option to soften the black a bit, is that deck (?) area top left? see the horiz taupe siding that looks like a short fence? I would redo that in the beautiful cedar/redwood planks as well as the posts for the front entrance.

I agree with landscaping will certainly help but I also agree that the black is a bit overwhelming. A dark bronze as suggested or possibly a dark taupe might look better.

It's the contrast that makes the home appear a bit hard. Perhaps keeping the black trim & changing the siding color to a taupe color would be an improvement. I would also eliminate the white window sashes.

The windows are white vinyl which what you are seeing so I can't do anything with the white.

Vinyl windows can be successfully painted, but it's your decision as to whether you want to do it.
