hmmm. does not necessarily date your house, as it is still used, but not used as much now days (I would guess it also depends on the area where you are located).

Having said that, it also depends a great deal on what your vanity, sink, tile would look like.

Another idea would be to not do everything in one finish, but once again really depends on the whole space.

your inspiration bathroom is very nice, however if you are trying to "bring it up to date" as you mentioned than stay away from those colors/finishes.

Having said that, it is your home and you should always put what you truly love. If your intention is just to renovate and give it a facelift instead of "bringing it up date" or to have what "is in right now" I think your bathroom could look just as beautiful with what you have in mind.

You're bringing it plenty up to date if you get it from 1995 to 2016 -- anything beyond that is petty distinctions. (a) it's your bathroom, and you should have it the way you like, and (b) see (a), but really, tell the contractor to shut up. Making decisions is hard enough without having somebody second-guessing your *taste*! It's one thing if you had chosen finishes that clash with each other or something, but just a different preference in metals? wtf indeed.

Unless you are planning on selling your home in the next couple of years, pick the plumbing fixtures you like. If it makes you happy to have those fittings in your bathroom then go with them. Politely thank your contractor for his input but explain it's my house, my money and I will pick what I want. If they have to be changed in the future plumbing fittings usually aren't very difficult to change anyway.
